Oxford dictionary explains the genesis of the word gender. It has always been biological.

a. gen. Males or females viewed as a group; = sex n.1 1. Also: the property or fact of belonging to one of these groups.
Originally extended from the grammatical use at sense 1   (sometimes humorously), as also in Anglo-Norman and Old French. In the 20th cent., as sex came increasingly to mean sexual intercourse (see sex n.1 4b), gender began to replace it (in early use euphemistically) as the usual word for the biological grouping of males and females. It is now often merged with or coloured by sense 3b.

I think the bathroom issue is shortsighted. If we allow transgender people to use what ever restroom and say that gender is based on how you identify, it will set a precedent. It will be jumping down a rabbit hole to who knows where.

Biologically, yes. From what I understand of transgender is they psychologically feel a different sex than their body displays. It really boggles my mind, but I also find it a bit interesting. Is there a mutation in their DNA that causes it? Is there some trauma in their past that causes it? Are they just being contrarians? I don't know.

I find it to be no different than the transabled and I find that to be a psychological issue.

Mental illness.

Isn't complicated at all.

It is rather confusing in the human world. Whites wanting to be black and vice versa, men wanting to be women and vice versa. Kind of makes one wonder if animals and their natural instincts might just be the smarter animals on the planet eh? Animals other than humans seem to be well satisfied with what they are.

One thing I'll say is that mental illness is everywhere you want to find it. Maybe it's always been this way, but it certainly is now.
Gender dysphoria or whatever the hell you call it is certainly further out there than anxiety or depression, but it's not my business what strangers out there are feeling. Beyond that, I hope people get help and aren't miserable.

This became a public concern because progressives made it one. They shouldn't have promoted Bruce Jenner, they shouldn't push/legislate acceptance of mental disorders, and of course they shouldn't fabricate a crisis over bathrooms to which the solution is advertising to males (who may or may not feel like women, for all we know) that they are welcome in female bathrooms.

It woke people up to the reality that the opinion makers were going to keep introducing new and more outlandish standards by which one was going to be judged. If you can't be a "good" person unless you accept obvious mental problems as aok, then frick it, burn it down.

In societies where the basic needs are easily met, people have time and mental energy to devote to this sort of bullshite. The widow in Guatemala with three kids doesn't have time to contemplate whether her gender matches her sex. She's too busy trying to shelter and feed her kids. Luxury and privilege begets this nonsense.

Uh.. since when are they different? Well, I mean ACTUALLY different, not different because well... somebody trying to push a silly agenda said they were different?

I remember in college over a decade ago they were defined differently.

Yes, therefore, it is a psychological problem, not a societal or biological one.

When a person blames the doctor at birth who "assigned him/her a gender", that is the issue.

If you believe in God, your gender was assigned by him/her. If you don't share that view, then nature assigned you a gender. There are cases where nature either did not give a person all or incomplete physical items to be a gender, but body chemistry can help there also.

When a person has to depend on voluntary surgery to change the physical gender and voluntary supplements and chemicals to change internal gender, then that person is messed up. A society that supports the easy way out (i.e. cut this and take pill) is only making it worse.

You are not a special snowflake. Life is not fair.

The LBGTXYZ population is less than 4% of the population in the USA. In a recent poll, Americans thought they made up 23% of the population. This is because all you ever hear about are gays and trannies. The number of Americans that admit to have had sex with an animal is twice that (8%) of LBGQT community. Where is the outcry for their rights to marry their pets?

Sex is different from gender.

But on this issue my party loses me a bit.

Would Chris Cuomo or any other liberal be tolerant of someone rubbing shite in their hair before they left the house? How about if a co-anchor dressed as a clown everyday because they identified as a clown?

This is an interesting topic to discuss and it seems even our liberal friends here that almost take the left view are not sold on gender being assigned by whatever a person feels like they are. Very good and rational responses. I found it interesting Coumo said a 12 year old girl seeing a penis in a locker room makes her or her dad intolerant. Seems like that's exactly what a dad should be....protective.
