February 16, 2024 | Austin, Texas | Press Release

Governor Greg Abbott today announced during a press conference in Eagle Pass that Texas is building a Forward Operating Base in the Del Rio sector to house Texas National Guard soldiers who are responding to President Joe Biden’s border crisis.

"Texas is expanding our border security capabilities by building a new Texas Military Department base camp to increase and improve border security operations in this area," said Governor Abbott. "This will increase the ability for a larger number of Texas Military Department soldiers in Eagle Pass to operate more effectively and efficiently. Before now, the Texas National Guard had been scattered across this entire region in cramped quarters, away from fellow soldiers, and sometimes traveling long distances to do their job. This base camp is going to dramatically improve conditions for our soldiers. Texas would not be able to respond to President Biden's border crisis without the brave men and women of the Texas National Guard, and it is essential to build this base camp for them."

The Governor was joined by Adjutant General of Texas Major General Thomas Suelzer and Texas Border Czar Mike Banks.

"In addition to being able to house 1,800 troops in their own individual rooms, Forward Operating Base Eagle will also have surge capability of taking on 500 additional troops should we need to deploy the Texas Tactical Border Force to this area," said Major General Suelzer. "In the coming weeks, we will also be expanding operations north and south of Eagle Pass, putting up additional barriers to fortify our border. We are also adding three more fan boats and expanding our drone program radar truck capabilities. Under Governor Abbott's leadership, we are deploying every available resource and strategy to protect and defend Texas."

Pay attention, red states.

Texas is putting on a clinic, demonstrating how to win against the overreaching Fed Gov.

Sen. Cruz has already said he’s running in ‘28; Abbott may as well do the same.

Add their names to the list of other state politicians who use Austin as a triple A farm club for Washington DC.

A vile place to land, but I’m admittedly biased.

Applauding while hoping he doesn't start wearing fatigues.
And still thinking this is Abbott following the votes and Paxton's lead. And I'm okay with that. A useful tool is useful until a different tool is needed.

Just close the border. I don’t mind the funds being spent but there is less costly ways for the taxpayer. It’s ridiculous we’re at this point.

How fricked up is it you need a FOB on U.S. soil?

It’s fricked up but at the same time it’s about theater. We don’t need a state to be doing this. How permanent will this be? Because if it’s anything lasting that means the ultimate problem won’t be fixed.

As things currently stand, I agree; this is a bandaid.

I’m no Abbott fan, but he can’t win in the eyes of public opinion.
He does nothing—people criticize.
He acts—people criticize.

Fact is, he and Paxton have done far more to address the border disaster than have any other elected officials.

I’m disgusted this has come down to Texas taxpayers having to pay to secure the international border for the rest of the country.
It’s all kinds of messed up.

They’ve done a good amount of work but the border has been worse overall since Biden took over and reversed all of trumps work. That fricked Texas and abbot had to deal with it.

Me too. I’m one citizen but you have my vote to close it however you see fit.

Politicians including abbot will still sleep well at night not fixing it.

I would love to see how the federal government would fight a Texas Military base from putting up a fence along with wire to keep people out.

Texas should just take over control of its border and either co-opt Border Control or kick them out

What is Biden going to do about it?

Don't mean anything unless use of force is authorized.

Not deadly force, just any force like batons, rubber bullets , tear gas and such.

This is just a bunch of people standing around watching thousands of illegals crossing over and yelling mean words at them. I bet if they did yell mean words they would be fired or transferred.

Just BS, all of it.

Looks like we know where we’re starting a new country. Would expect most of the south to join
