A survey of political issues one by one: Gay marriage- results, most don't care

TL/DR first:
Conservatives, I don't think our liberal friends understand us. Let's take gay marriage first.
Do you care if gays are allowed to marry today?
Yes or No?
LONG VERSION
There was a time that I was against it. I was raised a Christian in a rural area and was taught that it was wrong. To my knowledge, there were no gays in our town, the next town or the town after that (very rural area).
Because of that isolation, gays really weren't brought up at all. I mean like never. Then I moved to a larger town and eventually found out that my aunt, who I love a lot, was gay. Well, I kinda knew but didn't care and didn't ask. It didn't matter. It wasn't changing my opinion of her. She was never able to marry as her partner died of cancer. That was sad as she was also a wonderful person.
I then thought about the sin angle. I ultimately decided that, as a sinner myself, that my sins are no different even if I consider homosexuality a sin. My sins are between me and God and so are their sins.
After I came to that conclusion, I decided to change my stance. Gay marriage is fine with me.
This issue could have resolved itself sooner if gays had not wanted to take a religious jab by using marriage IMO. They could have gotten civil unions much sooner and been more at peace with more conservatives much sooner but that's a different discussion.

No, I don't care. But at the same time I understand the Religious not wanting to call it Marriage.
I'm for contracts that provide the same benefits of marriage for Gays.
I'm more for Government getting out of marriage all together.

MAGA should completely and utterly abandon any opposition to gay marriage. First and foremost its ridiculous for the feds to be involved in it and further, its a really bad political position.

This. No one really has a problem with civil unions that ensure legal rights in regards to their partner.
But explicitly using the term 'marriage' and the immense pressure put on religious groups to be 'tolerant' is meant to be a finger in the eye of traditionalists.

No, doesn't affect me in any way.

You are OK if they "marry" now though, right?

I originally had a semantic issue.
Now that it's law, I don't care

No one should be against it. Doesn't effect our lives.
And the gay community was right in stating that the federal government offering a tax break for married heterosexuals not being available for them wasn't right. It wasn't.

This.
Next issue. Preferably something important.

I'm all for govt getting out of the marriage business, but as long as they are in it, gay people have just as much right to be married and miserable as straight people do.

I share your stance on gay marriage--I believe in it, although I never had opposition to it in the first place.
Honest question: did trump ever say he intended to overturn gay marriage? My gay friends have been absolutely losing it on fb, more so than any other group. I told them to show me where he planned to overturn it and they keep pointing to Pence. I mentioned trump has been for gay marriage longer than Hilary has been "for" it. Please inform me on something I may be missing.

Government shouldn't regulate marriage. Marriage is a religious/spiritual institution and should only be governed by such.
If familial unions have impact on taxes then the government should issue civil unions only.
If the 1st church of the rainbow wants to wed you and your gay lover that's the church's prerogative.

No.
In fact, he was pro-gay marriage back in the early 00's; he was pro-gay marriage before Clinton OR Obama were.
He changed his policies to better represent conservative voters, but let's be honest -- we all sense the guy is somewhat liberal on social issues, right?

Yep, and I'm fine with that.

So he did change his mind? Because IIRC, he said he loved gays at the convention. And came out after Orlando and said I am for you and your rights. I'm honestly looking for hard proof of him saying he's going to do anything to threaten their rights.
ETA: I know he won't but I'm trying to help quell the insanity on my fb. They're losing their minds.
I've made it clear I don't want trump to even go near gay marriage and their rights. It would be political suicide and an issue NO ONE cares about anymore.
