A homeless woman got an apartment. Then came conflicts with neighbors.
In 2021, Staci Jameson had been living in a tent when she received what thousands of homeless people in D.C. desperately need: a housing voucher. She landed a one-bedroom apartment in an upscale building downtown, with rent fully paid each month by the government.
But Jameson, a 38-year-old mother of three with a history of heroin addiction, was soon accused of threatening staff, undressing in the lobby and rubbing her backside against a police officer responding to a complaint about her, according to police records and evidence presented in court. So in 2022, her landlord, Borger Management, launched the legal process to get Jameson out of the building.

Jameson was incensed.
“This is crap!” she said, storming out of the courtroom and shouting her way down the hallway.
After she appealed, a judge noticed a technical problem with Borger’s paperwork: A notice of eviction must explain that victims of domestic violence may be able to stay in their apartments if their lease violations are related to domestic violence. Jameson’s didn’t have such language.
So in June, Borger’s case against Jameson was dismissed, even though she does not claim to be a victim of domestic violence.

I was reading this yesterday and thought this statement was interesting. "Jameson said she did not know if there was a case manager or anyone responsible for helping her remain in her apartment."
She was responsible for helping herself remain in her free, upscale, apartment.
She is also a very rough looking 38 year old.

When i look at others at the gym in my area, there is no way they can afford the cost of living in the area.
There is more of the govt help in apartments then i think most people know. It's not only in low income housing areas.

Yeah. It’s easy to just say these people suck / are shitty purely by choice but reality is their mental illnesses will never allow them to be anything but. The person described above isn’t sane enough to be coherently shitty/toxic just by choice
If the government wants to jump in and place them in asylums I’m down. Until purges are legal I’m not sure what better option there is. Just don’t put them among others, the outcome is already known

People living on the streets are living on the streets for a reason. They didn’t just wake up one day and decide frick the suburbs, I’ve always wanted to live in squalor under a bridge. If you want to help them, get them the mental health they need, not a nice apartment where everyone else has to suffer.

The law is failing to protect people living within the confines of the law.
The only option left is to start hurting people enough so they stay away.
This is why I see a large increase in violence coming. Sadly, the legal system won’t protect the common citizen, but be careful the legal system will prosecute the common citizen for doing what they should have done years ago.

I mean what the frick. I found the apartments, rent for a 1/1 is between $1850 and $2600...
