I don't know if something like this has been discussed. But I'm trying to read Schumer's mind and I can see this:

The Dem's agree to give Gorsuch the 60 vote approval to avoid the nuke option.
In return the GOP must promise not to invoke the nuke option for the remainder of Trump's term.
This means they can demand a 'moderate' nominee when the next 2 liberal judges leave or croak.

A public promise by the GOP puts them in a bind for those next two seats. They will look really bad if they go back on it.

Schumer will frame it as a reasonable compromise.

I'm not sure if the GOP has the backbone to tell Schumer to go pound sand. Thoughts?

Why would GOP agree to any sort of handshake deal with the Dems? Every time they do the GOP end up being screwed

If they just need someone to tell Schumer to pound sand, I'll gladly do that.

McConnell is a big enough cuck to go along with this. McCain and Graham will cheer from the sidelines. Ugh.

Trump has his list and he won't stray from it.

No way would the Dems trust the GOP that they wouldn't use the nuclear option in the future. The fact that they refused to even hold hearings on Garland and essentially stole the seat from the obama administration show the GOP only wants to put their guy on the seat.
(Note: I'm not saying the Dems wouldn't do the same thing if roles were reversed)

GOP only needs one vote. They'll just find a dem up for reelection in a red state and promise him funding for a pork project in the next appropriations bill in exchange for his vote.

That would be dumb on the GOP's part. No deal. I don't want some milquetoast to replace Ginsburg. I want an activist conservative to counter the activist leftist judges. The Dems will end the filibuster the next time they have the Senate and presidency anyway.

Whatever you do, Zach, don't float that idea to Schumer. It's better than anything he could've come up with.

Besides, Trump is just getting started. He will get to pick 2 more SC Justices (In addition to Gorsuch) in his first term. We need ALL 3 to be solid conservatives.

Ah, you don't understand the strategy. Let me explain it to you.
Schumer doesn't have to trust the GOP. He needs to put them in a dilemma.

a. If they keep their word he demands two liberals to replace two liberals are they go with the fillibuster.

b. If they don't keep the promise it's a campaign weapon the Dems don't have if the deal isn't made in the first place.

c. If the GOP says 'go f yourself' then it's a smaller weapon than 'b' but it's better than if he never offers the deal.

Schumer already suggested that Trump and both parties in the Senate negotiate for a moderate.

I don't remember him telling Obama that.

He knows he f'ed up, but his mouth backed him into a corner. Backing down now would be more catastrophic for him than the bomb!

Can you imagine the gnashing of teeth and melting if Trump gets to put in 3 justices?

Tears of I can't kill tiny humans any longer all over the place.

They don't have to trust the GOP. See my 2nd post.

That will never happen because the GOP made similar deals during Obamas first term only to have the Dems renig after getting what they wanted. They can't trust the repubs to not start acting like progs.

Sure. I'd agree to that. And then wait until after the 2018 elections to nominate the next one
