New?

China being our enemy is just media bullshite. China needs the USA as much as the USA needs it. Without the USA , the chinese economy would crash.

Putin has no desire to bring back the USSR. If anything, he seems to favor a theocratic Czarist Russia that existed prior to the Bolshevik revolution.

On the McLaughlin Group tonight, there was one of those rare moments of unanimity when the subject of Ukraine/Crimea came up, with all four panelists (Pat Buchanan, Eleanor Clift, Mort Zuckerman and Guy Taylor) and McLaughlin agreeing that Putin has a legitimate grievance with the West in general, and the U.S. in particular.

What might that be, and how does his invasion of Ukraine relate to this grievance?

To many people on both sides gain power and money from friction between the US and Russia. A nice healthy Cold War is good for business.

But for how much longer? If Brasil and India's middle class keeps growing, cut they become autonomous of the USofA?

And I don't think it matters anyway. I know it isn't the best source, but after watching the Vice documentary on China's economy being propped up with it's GDP on empty infrastructure and also it's manipulating of currency, I don't think it's but a matter of time before the MASSIVE bubble burst and their economy crashes so bad that thousands of Chinese are likely to die of starvation :tinfoilhatstilldonned:

Most Americans can't figure out who or what the "enemy" is. It changes like the wind. And we aren't going to figure it out by listening to mainstream news. Vladimir Putin and Russia are not our enemy.

Our own dumbed-down ignorance is our enemy.

I grew up during the cold war, they have always been the enemy as far as I am concerned.

I believed that from the 1960's through the mid-1980's because I believed most of what I heard on the news. Sometime during the 80's, I started reading books... objective books by objective authors on matters relating to foreign relations and world affairs (from public libraries and universities). I realized I was wrong...very wrong.

How were you wrong?

How was the Soviet Union until its dissolution not a threat to the US interest? Cuba, Nicaragua, Angola, Namibia, Afghanistan, SEASia, Congo, .....

How were Poland, Romania, Hungry, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania.... not captive nations,

What the shite were you reading?

I believed that communism was a threat to the U.S. It in fact was Russia's problem. It was China's problem, not our problem. We had our own internal problems and still do.

Yes, we prevented Russia from controlling most of these countries with "Russia's", i.e. USSR's economic/political traps. But we've introduced our own. Empire building led to the Soviet Union's economic and political collapse. If we continue down the same path, it will lead to ours.

IMO, the neocons have done more longterm harm to this country than Al-Qaeda, so one could argue that they're our #1 enemy.

This is true. But it's only a fraction of the problem. I do agree that it's a MAJOR problem.

There's no doubt that during the Cold War, the Soviet Union was a mortal threat to the U.S., but now it seems that we were both caught up in a cycle of self-perpetuating fear. I believe our leaders back then genuinely believed in the domino theory, which is why we believed we had to be imperialists out of a sense of survival. Conversely, the Soviet Union also believed in the domino theory which is why they felt they had to be imperialist to survive. The more we expanded our sphere of influence, they more they felt they had to and vice versa.

Why did our diplomatic relationship with Russia fall off a cliff the last 3-4 years?
