HBO did a segment on the wasteful spending in Afghanistan. We bought a few dozen attack helicopters from Russia and gave them to Afghanistan. The maintance on and to train crews to fly helicopters would be something like 1/2 of the Afghan's budget. So the helicopters will never leave the ground.

They also had a multi-million dollar power station that we bulit, that doesn't produce power because it isn't cost effective. The civilans that received the power were paying the electric bills to the Taliban, since they were the ones showed up to collected.
