The problem for Rand is the stances he'll have to take to woo the black vote will alienate some of his base. I would seriously question whether his gains with blacks would outnumber the loss of conservative support.

I somewhat agree with this which is why Rand's only chance is to hope that Hillary wraps up the Democratic nomination so early, that minorities, young folks and non-interventionists find participation in the Republican primaries more appealing, and Rand can actively court them to switch parties for the primaries. Do you remember Rush Limbaugh's Operations Chaos in 2008?

No, it's the inexplicable herd voting I mentioned.

Ron Paul was polling well among blacks and got fricking buried by the republican party. Same will happen with Rand, though he may be moderate enough to overcome the bullshite.

One of the things pointed out by Michelle Bernard on Chris Matthews's show was that at the 2007 debate at Morgan State University, an HBCU in Baltimore, there were Ron Paul signs and bumper stickers all over the place. Considering the fact that Ron never courted Black folks as aggressively as Rand is doing, I have a hunch that if the GOP holds a 2016 debate on an HBCU campus, the spectacle will be like homecoming for Rand, as though he was an alumnus of that school.

It's only inexplicable to the willfully ignorant and obtuse.

Well, please explain how a group with such variance votes the same way, short of their buying into the fear tactics and stereotypes offered by democrats.

Not only is it dimisive, it illustrative of what the GOP really is, a small tent party with absolutely no intention of changing. Legions of young black and Hispanic voters will be democrats by default.
