151st Anniversary Of the Abolition of Slavery

Just saw on POTUS Obama's twitter feed.
"Remember, our freedom is bound to the freedom of others" -Barack H. Obama
I like how he used the words 'bound' to re emphasize the negative aspects of slavery. No matter what your politics, every modern man agrees enslaving fellow Americans is the most wretched side of humanity.
Also I was told by one of our minority attorneys that Abrahama Lincoln would have been a democrat if he were alive today. I really don't know for sure, but seeing how parties change, I can see how she could be right. That was 151 years ago.

Abraham Lincoln wanted to ship the freed slaves back to Africa. John Wilkes Booth made our history a LOT different

We should have a) never had slavery in the first place or b) never have freed the slaves once we started down the road of forced servitude. But what we have now is intolerable and horrendous for America and black people alike.

Well, for one thing, they technically weren't Americans. Not at that time.
Second, there is still slavery in the world. There's still slavery in the United States. Two or three sex slaves crossed the Mexican border while I was typing this.

Actually 600,000 americans dying over slavery in a war is a more wretched side of humanity. That is much worse.
Slavery was well on its way to becoming obsolete in about a decade or so and it could've been phased out peacefully without nothing more than a gallon of blood being shed over it. The rest of the western world was able to end their legal slavery peacefully expect for us.

Considering how Lincoln basically shat all over the constitution and governed like a tyrant, no shite.

In the US
World Wide the last country to abolish Slavery was Mauritania and it was officially abolished in 1981.
But...
There are still over 1 million people living in Slavery there.

No, it's called picking at a scab, it never heals. Every time someone wants us to "remember" slavery from 151 years ago we just want to know "why". Anyone with a brain today knows it's not a good thing today but it was accepted at that time in history.
Do you think slavery will rear its ugly head in this country again is we don't constantly talk about it to keep it relevant? Let it go and let the scab heal and everything will be fine sooner than later.

Substantiate the claim. And when you think about how different history would have been with such a scenario, how unjust do you think that would have been considering slaves' contributions (directly through labor and indirectly through the lifestyles that they enabled others to live and the wealth that some people were able to accumulate through the years in a system of slavery) to America?

Yeah, I can honestly say that I just don't like most of the posters on this board.
Some of them remind me that I need to keep my cutthroat potentialities sharp and ready.

What are you talking about? We DID have slavery, unfortunately, but we should have never freed the slaves?
This board has become a cesspool.

This is not true. There is no way that this is true under any stretch of the imagination. Slavery would have continued WELL into the 20th century if left on its own. Without question.
What are you reading?

I love these threads. This board can't just be happy that slavery was abolished. They'll spin even THAT as negative. Gross.

Abraham Lincoln wanted to send the slaves back home. He would be called a nazi today and not allowed to speak at universities

Good riddance to state sanctioned slavery, in the U.S. at least.
(although it can still be constitutionaly legal in specific circumstances)

He probably wouldn't want to ship blacks back home today.

Good God,why is this even a talking point? He wanted as a VOLUNTARY option for the freed slaves and he actually consulted black Methodist preachers about it and they were mostly opposed to it.He obviously thought there would be issues with freed slaves in American society but his option by today's standard was obviously not very well though out.
