Ahuhas? Pretty good. Try the chicken soup, it's great. I didnt' care for the skirt steak though, was really, really, really dry. The crunchy tacos were good, so were the grilled shrimp.

In the old Serop's? Not yet, I was looking for a place that my wife could meet me on my way home.

I've been three times and all 3 times it was bad. I'll take Las Palmas over that one.

there are VERY few places in BR that serve AUTHENTIC mexican food .. i know that much .. and yes, i have tasted TRUE mexican food in houston on a number of occasions and just am not a big fan of it .. you take las palmas, fernandos, ahhura, casa garcia, serranos, on the border, etc. .. blind fold the average joe, serve them their traditional taco, burrito, enchillada, with rice & refried beans dish and every fricking one of them tastes the same .. then go home and pop a patio dinner in the microwave for less than $3 and you get the same fricking thing ..

nah .. you don't have to have much of a palate for mexican food in BR .. just memory recall because most of it tastes the same .. get as pissed as you want about it .. it's my personal opinion ..

well i don't know what kind of mexican food restaurants there are in baton rouge. reading your post, it sounds like they're all shitty approximations of sonoran and northern mexican "rice and beans" type stuff. there's actually a lot more variety to mexican food than that. too bad people aren't exposed to it.

BINGO .. we have mostly bland mexican imposter crap in BR .. like i said, i've had authentic mexican in houston and corpus christi before .. so i do know the difference .. just not a big fan of mexican .. especially BAD mexican food ..

Just because something isn't authentic, doesn't means it tastes bad.

The places that serve the most authentic Mexican food are La Tiendita, Juanita's and Taco & Burrito Express. The Mexican-owned places that serve Tex-Mex but with some authentic Mexican dishes are La Carreta, Rio Grande and Fernando's. But while Ninfa's isn't authentic, the food is good, and more importantly, it's consistent.

In Mexico I'd eat at anything from taco shops to upscale restaurants, Mexico has some restaurants where the food tastes worse than a Tex-Mex place here in BR. While you'll never see me going back to places like Serranos or Superior Grill, to compare other restaurants to a microwave dinner seems a little foolish.

if you are on jones creek anyway just go further down to the shopping center with ralphs market and go to taqueria mexicana. pretty tasty and dirt cheap. they have the mexican cokes. went there last night and it is still good. avoid the queso dip.
