Under what circumstances could this be made possible?

No

The only way it could be done is to have qualifying matches last 4 years. You would only be able to bank on one fight at the Olympics. Guys get beat to hell.

Also, the top guys aren't going to fight basically for free in Olympic qualifying and risk injuries that could put them out of major PPV bouts.

The only reason I brought it up was that it has been done in boxing (even though boxing as a sport has been around a lot longer).

I guess you would need amateur and pro divisions.

Those boxers wear sparring equipment and pillows for gloves.

I think Jiu Jitsu should be a Olympic sport before MMA IMO.

Its entertaining and its like a merge of JUDO and wrestling

That's do-able... at least more so than any striking discipline.

Guys would still be getting their joints wrenched... but it's certainly more feasible than an actual MMA tournament.

Even kickboxing tournaments are full of guys having to back out because of injuries sustained in their wins.

Exactly. I had this in mind when I brought up "under what circumstances." Although I can't really see MMA fighters with headgear and huge gloves.

I can definitely see this as an Olympic sport in the future.

Head gear is maybe possible... gloves on the other hand would virtually exclude jiu-jitsu, wrestling, and judo fighters.

agreed and you would see more submission attempts when the focus of judo is to score the ippon as fast as possible
