Yeah it only held and might still hold the record for longest running sitcom. I believe the finale holds the record for the highest ratings as well. (Waiting for the lame because everyone was excited it was going off the air joke).

Even with only 5 channels the number is still impressive. It also was a show that took a big gamble. This was during the Vietnam war era and even though they said Korean war in the show, everyone looked at it as the Vietnam war. They poked fun at what was a huge issue in the country at the time. I think people enjoyed the fact it poked fun but also had their serious episodes that brought reality into the show from time to time.

What, are you 12? The topics and themes on MASH are pretty much timeless.

There were also fewer TV's and fewer households. It's a hell of an accomplishment. Think of all the popular shows that have had big finales since then, Superbowls, O.J. verdict, and it still holds the top spot.

Oh, and wipe your fricking nose, junior.

The first three seasons are as good as any sitcom in history.

Watch these episodes, then come back and tell us it's "the worst show ever made".

Crisis
Ceasefire
Tuttle
The Ringbanger
For the Good of the Outfit
The Sniper
A Smattering of Intelligence

I love that one.

But, in defense of thedude, if he only watched episodes from the last couple of seasons, I can understand the hate. Alda's hijacking of the show was not quality television.

The last couple of years were pretty bad. The characters I loved started leaving the show (Radar, Frank, ext.). It's kinduv intresting though that the show lasted longer than the Korean Wat did.

Anyone remember the old days of WWL in the late 70's-early 80's....the 10:35 MASH???

One of the best sitcoms ever....but not as funny as the movie! Great friggin' movie before it was a sitcom.

The classic TV show Combat dealt with an army platoon in WW2 France.

The French campaign lasted roughly 9 months (June '44- March '45).

Combat ran five years (1962-7).

Second only to All In The Family. The first three seasons of MASH were freaken awesome. I also agree that Alda fricked the show up.
