So if the real Tyler Durden kills evil Tyler Durden by shooting himself in the mouth, but the real Tyler Durden is able to live, but the evil Tyler Durden dies from the same bullet wound, what gives?

It is symbolic.

They had to end the movie. I've pondered this myself, and I've decided to accept the movie as is.

Yeah, loved the movie but the end was a stretch. As the poster before said, you just gotta accept it and move on.

It kills Tyler Durden because Tyler Durden didn’t exist. It is the symbolic act of destroying his id and accepting himself for what he is. The bullet didn’t wound Tyler because there was no Tyler to be wounded. By shooting himself in the head, The Narrator (I love how he has no name) made a dramatic act towards regaining control of his psyche.

There was a smoking hole in the back of Tyler's head man.
