re: The 50 Lies of Obama - Snopes
Some of the "lies" seem to be opinions. I'm more intersted in the ones that are proven as fact or not. Like his record as a representative, or the fact he keeps funding the war. That is a good point. I'm assuming that Snopes will get around to these other points as well as it seems that they are going in order.

re: The 50 Lies of Obama - Snopes
Exactly why is Snopes liberal? I find that they do a superb job of debunking most internet myths and rumors.

ETA: If you read the article, there are reasonable explanations for the so called lies.

re: The 50 Lies of Obama - Snopes
I would agree that Snopes is pretty liberal when it comes to e-mails about politics. But I think that the site still serves a purpose. I can't think of how many times I've had to reply to a relative or friend and direct them to this site over some e-mail that they sent me.

LINK

Snopes does honest work. It is not biased. Here's a link to W stories circulating on the internets. As you can say, they call BS on roughly half of the W related emails.

Ive never felt Snopes was liberally slanted. But that posting seemed to excessively err on Obama's side.

re: The 50 Lies of Obama - Snopes
Here is one example of how Snopes excuses away Barry's Clinton-esqu embellishments:

quote:

Obama told his audience that, because some folks had the courage to "march across a bridge" in Selma, Alabama, his mother, a white woman from Kansas, and his father, a black Muslim from Africa, took heart. It gave them the courage to get married and have a child. The problem with that characterization is that Barack Obama, Jr. was born on August 4, 1961, while the first of three marches across that bridge in Selma didn't occur until March 7, 1965, at least five years after Obama's parents met.

Senator Obama might be considered guilty of engaging in little pandering here by trying to imply a direct line between the 1965 Selma, Alabama, marches and his personal background (since he was speaking in Selma at the time). However, the tenor of his speech was how the overall growth and progress of the Civil Rights movement affected the outlook of blacks (including his family), both in the U.S. and abroad. That movement did not start with the 1965 marches in Selma; it was a process that began and grew across the years, including among its landmark events the 1955-56 bus boycott in Montgomery (which occurred several years before Barack Obama was born, and before his father left Africa for the U.S.)

Oh, so He was speaking in Selma at a commemoration of the Selma March and cited to Selma and the March, YET he really meant all the stuff long before that.

I'm sure they'll be excusing his latest lie about his Uncle (when he actually has no Uncle).

If this were Dan Quayle Leno/Letterman/Conan would be all over it -- idiot candidate. Moron. But...
Obama gets a free pass.

Well at least he didn't say his grandmother stormed the beaches of Normandy alone and single-handily whipped the Germans.

Odd that as much as barry is hope/change and is supposedly so intelligent and capable, and Bush was so dumb and inept, Barry is already consistently making these substantive gaffs.

re: The 50 Lies of Obama - Snopes
quote:

# I Am Stronger On Foreign Affairs - LIAR, except for Africa (surprise) and the Middle East (bigger surprise), you have never been anywhere else on the planet and thus have NO experience with our closest allies.

Barack Obama has lived in, traveled to, or otherwise spent time in countries in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Whether his experiences make him "stronger on foreign affairs" is argumentative, but again, Obama himself is far from the only person to suggest that it might:
"Living abroad does give you a wider view of the world," says Zbigniew Brzezinski, former National Security Adviser under Jimmy Carter, and a Polish-American who spent four years as a child living in Germany with his diplomat father. Obama is "a person with genuine sensitivity of world affairs," says Brzenzinski, who is supporting Obama. "It's not the conventional mouthing of culture sensitivities." Brzezinski points to Obama's greater willingness to meet leaders of hostile nations and his early resistance to the war in Iraq as examples of his superior intuition on foreign policy.

Above is a typical example. Political argument disguised as a busted "myth" which is the supposed purpose of snopes.

snopes = liberal bullshitee.

The worst part is about his religous affiliation. Saying he joined the church some time before he considered a political career. That is a load of shite.

You can just glance at the "false" statements and tell it is pure spin.

Like when he said his grandmother was a Christian. The only reference I could find is that she was a non-practicing methodist for her adult life. By that standard, anyone that was ever a "Christian" even for a couple of years, and never consistently worshipped or even acknowledged religion thereafter, would still be considered a "Christian".

So was the statement technically true? Yes. But was the meaning behind it, that he was brought up in a Christian household and has longstanding ties to Christianity, true? No.

If snopes was on the level, they would have put more more analysis into this than they did.

I agree, but you're comparing a chain email some random person made to a website that holds itself out as a purveyor of truth and investigation.

Not quite the same.
