I know this is a very broad question, but my parents own a piece of property in old metairie that my grandparents house is own. Its a long, skinny lot and the house is basically a tear-down. What would be the cost to rebuild a skinny shotgun, maybe a skinny camel back? Thanks for any info.

They should look at a Katrina Cottage. All of the info on them are on Lowe's website.

Hell just sell the lot?

if they just sold the lot itself, it is so small that they would get barely nothing for it. I would like to "buy" it from them, put a small, pretty nice shotgun on it, live in it for a couple years, then sell it.

The problem might be when you think of the Metairie area, you think of your slab type traditional housing. I think of shotguns in NOLA proper...

that doesn't mean I can't build a shotgun in Old Met. Also, the neighborhood is an older neighborhood and a shotgun would fit in. Its in the neighborhood right off of the railroad track by Winston's on Nursery Avenue.

What do you consider getting "nothing" for it? Even a garbage lot could probably fetch $150K.

the my aunts want to sell it for $60,000. my parents say hell no! I don't think people would pay much more for the lot.

Hamburglar - how wide is the lot?

I once had developed plans for a two story Orleans style, home for a 24 foot wide lot. It had off street parking for 4 cars downstairs, 4 BR, 3 BA, kit, LR, Porch, Office, etc.

If you're in old metairie - building the house would be better than selling the lot - even with the potential for housing prices to slump.

i don't know the exact width, but it is skinny skinny. A bit less than 30 feet wide maybe. Not quite sure.

I don't know if this pertains to this statement, but I was talking to my mother about this whole idea and what we would have to do because of some law is to knock the whole thing down except for one wall, build this frame of the house around it, and then tear down said wall...anyone else ever hear about doing this?
