Novak Djokovic over Roger Federer

I was trying to tell my friend we were gonna see the end of the Federer era this year, siting tennis players peaking quite early and at 26 going on 27 that he was already past his prime. He's a huge federer homer so i doubt he will be convinced yet, at least now he has some competition on grass.

Federer looked a little sick last night... he definitely wasn't getting to some shots he normally would have

Agreed, but there is pretty good chance Ferrer moves up to the #4 seed slot before the French and he has a very good clay game. If he can remove Nadal Federer can pull it off.

He's had some didn't Nadal take him to 5 sets in the Wimbledon final? The grass now much more resembles clay than it does the hard courts.

I wasn't necessarily talking about Nadal. The French is for the young man who can get to everything. It would be unusual to win your first on the back side of your 20s. For history's sake, I hope he does. On the other hand, I'm a huge Agassi fan, so the fewer the career slams, the better for his legacy.

Then this straight sets pounding at the Aussie Open should be even more alarming. Djokovic has looked great. If he's on, he's gonna be able to compete with Federer anywhere. Should be an exciting year.

I want to see if he can do well on clay, but I think Novak has a much better chance of becoming an all court player than Nadal, who is probably going to start falling off. Too many long rallies for his body to stay healthy.

This may be the case, but look how far he still got in the tournament. This loss is going to motivate Federer. He knows that he can be beat on the big stage and, as a result, he will now be on a mission the rest of this year. I think Wimbledon is a given, but I wouldn't be surprised if he won the U.S. Open again. The French is another story, but he can make it the distance there.
By the end of this year, there will be no more arguing who is the best ever...in my book he already is the best player to play the game.

i agree, i think this loss is only going to solidify his dominance in the remaining slams this year. i wouldn't be surprised to see him win the french after this. he's not really falling off yet, he was making uncharacteristic mistakes the entire tournament.

Keep in mind his tournament preparations were interrupted by sickness, so that didn't help.

Everyone is going to have an off day....it's how you respond and recover from it. In Federer's case, he didn't have the best tournament and still made it to the semi-finals which is pretty impressive. I don't think he is dropping off at all. People just expect him to win every tournament b/c he has had an amazing run over the past 3 years. I think he is eventually going to blow Sampras' record out the water.

Excatly my point, he is dropping off, because he was winning every tournament over the last 3 years. I'm not saying the guy is gonna suck, he will still be amazing but i just think that he is on the other side of his peak. Its nothing bad it happens to everyone he will still probably win 7 or 8 more majors.

Only because he has NO competition since he has been playing. I would drool over a Wimbledon final like this.

He basically said that last night after the match. For him to not play his best and have an off tournament, the results are still exceptional.
I hate to say it, but I would rather not ever see him win the French. I'm too much of an Agassi fan, and Federer taking the career grand slam would take a little away from Andre.
I'm so glad I recorded the match. Can't wait to watch it.

I don't know, I love Agassi but Federer is just stunning to watch.
