... isn't this the guy that met the auburn plane in the middle of the night on a runway in louisville behind his friend and mentor - tommy tuberville's back ? petrino's name in his last three years at louisville was constantly surfacing for every head coaching position in the country ... jobs weren't looking for him either like they were saban .. he was agressively seeking them ...

this guy signs a 10 year extension with louisville in july of 2006 .. then leaves for the falcons in january of 2007, then leaves the falcons after just 13 games ... and arkansas fans think this is a long term thing ???

oh well ... they do have history on their side .. didn't lou holtz bail on the jets after a 3-10 start to take the arky job ?

I don't think that's true... but maybe it will be because according to everyone, no one will touch him after this.

When reality sinks in next year, just as it did in Alabama this year, they won't be so fired up.

That dude won't be able to stomach over a year of that Hog Call shite. I also think that our little Piggie friends should look at all of the reasons why he had a strong team in his conference too. The Big East was a far different conference made up of mostly weak teams and was very easy to dominate. It's a much different situation just two years later.

DC .. petrino is a short term fix to please some influential backers -- i.e. the $$$$ people ... i think he stays three years tops ... one thing you have in your favor is he'll never leave you for the NFL again ... i didn't think a coach could leave an NFL team with a worse taste in its mouth than saban did -- but your boy topped him ..

he has lied to his last 2 employers dead in their face (not the fans or media but boss...blank included) and told them he wasn't going anywhere or seriously considering going anywhere

Man, I don't know Topless... all I know is we have a coach.

Do I think he's the savior? No
Do I feel he'll stay here forever? No
Do I feel he'll be a force in the SEC? Who knows
Do I think he's an upgrade from Nutt? Yes

All I care about is that we have a coach and it's a big splash.

I admire your optimism, but this is the place (see above) where we have to disagree. You guys arent going to fully appreciate how good a coach Nutt was until now in the future that you dont have him....and of course if and when you guys get beat by Ole Miss in the next coming years.

Nutt WAS a good coach... I'm not a hater.

But things weren't going to work with all the drama that came out. It's unfortunate but true.

Yes, big splash isn't always the best thing but we'll see. I'm not going to be convinced that we are headed for doom... sorry.

you don't have to be convinced, hell most bama fans aren't convonced saban probably won't give them what they all expect either, but i'll just post what i said on another topic

quote:

in 10 season he (bnutt) brought them to 8 bowls (every year except 04 & 05), 4 of those bowls being new years day bowls, 2 sec west championships all with less talent than other teams in his division

he battled boosters/admin who basically refuse to let a head coach lead that team, they refuse to let arkansas play their biggest game of the year on campus (and insetad play it ins a crappy piece of crap stadium in little rock), bring in HS coaches as coord just to sign recruits etc.

the arkansas admin/boosters are a joke right now...Nutt wasn't Arkansas' problem, Arkanas' was their own problem

now you bring in a guy who is more power hungry than Nutt and proven over time he can do less against inferior competition than what Nutt can do at Arkansas against better competition.

Would you take a RB from the SEC who is 3rd team all conference, or a guy who was 3rd team all conference from CUSA?

Not only has Petrino not accomplished more than what Nutt has, Nutt did it against MUCH harder competition.

one could make an argument that a bcs win for petrino is more than Nutt ever did at arkansas but winning the big east, then beating wake forest in a bcs game to me is less of an accomplishment than what Nutt did in 98 being picked to finish somewhere near the bottom of the sec west (if not the bottom) then win (a share) the division title

that's just something you don't do in the NFL .. the way he handled this with blank WILL come back to haunt him ..

splashes turn to swells, then ripples, then subside pretty quickly ......

The Arkansas fans will feel the same as I feel about Coach Saban. I really like him and support him 100%. I think he is a great coach, he was a great hire, and he will turn the program around. I really hope he is in Tuscaloosa for a long, long time. However, every time I hear a job has opened up or may open up I get nervous inside.

Some people may not like to hear that but I'm just being honest. I had a co-worker (and fellow Bama fan) talk to me almost an hour the other day about why he thinks Saban will retire at Bama. I hope he is right, I just don't believe it yet.
