Let me provide some intel. How I know these things isn't relevant...
--She actually graduated from Mississippi State. She moved here a few years ago with her then-boyfriend when he got a job here. They eventually broke up and she just stayed here.

These people must have something that's not firing right in their brains. I cannot in any way see how they think this is ok.
If I'm a teacher at a girls school, there's just no way possible I would fool around with a 16 year old girl, no matter the circumstances.
Something just is not right mentally.

I think it's because women are rarely placed in positions of power over the opposite sex both with respect to legitimate authority and sexual power/influence.
In a classroom they have power over boys who would do anything to please them. Most women will never experience that, and sometimes the opportunity is, in their minds, too hard to pass up.

I read a theory once that these teachers who keep doing this always wanted to be the " it girl" in HS but never were. They were jealous of the popular girls and their BMOC boyfriends....and then when they get back to these environments and find themselves still relatively young...the kids start thinking they are the cool teacher. This translates into them feeling like they ARE the "it girl" and they develop a fantasy world of being back in HS....which leads to flirting with the guy she would never have had a chance with back then...which leads to some really bad decisions. I dunno if this is correct, but it sounds plausible.
