Blakeney is 100 percent a pure shooting guard.

His highlights show plenty PG qualities. Russell Westbrook like

Obviously Simmons can move outside at times as well and try to take a less fluid moving forward off the dribble.

I'd say about 8 to 10 times per game if the opponents try to stay man. And Blakeney, Hornsby and Patterson are zone killers, not to mention Simmons seems to navigate zones quite efficiently.

Why play Blakeney at PG on this roster?

TQ showed last year that LSU's offense was at it's most efficient with him being the primary ball-handler

Gray (yes him) can still be a good PG for this team if he's willing to run the offense instead of create the offense. He's still LSU's quickest ball-handler who can beat anyone off the dribble.

Patterson can play effectively at both the 1 and 2 spots.

Simmons' best trait is his ability to handle and pass the basketball. We will see times where he is the "de facto" PG.

Let Blakeney do what he does best, score. This team has plenty of guys who can run the point.

You said most everything I was and I agree. The only small exception I might make is that TQ is not as good a point guard as everyone believes. He is adequate, even good, but definitely not great. I think if the pros take him it will be as a defensive 3 guard role player who slows down his guy and does the rebounding and hustle plays that we all appreciate him for.

I think if TQ can improve his dribbling/ball handling/passing and not make so many mental mistakes he could be brilliant. Time will tell.

And yes, our point guard on transition will be Simmons more times than anyone else. Seeing him snatch those rebounds and immediately turn down the court with incredible speed and acceleration makes my heart beat fast.
