You have a hose along with a 3 liter bucket and a 5 liter bucket. How do you get exactly 4 liters of water from this setup?

Fill 5L exactly halfway, fill 3L exactly halfway

2.5L + 1.5L = 4L

????

You could fill them both up and take half out of each one

How will you know what is half way? There is no eyeballing. Your answer is wrong by the way.

For this type of question, it’s easiest to use deductive reasoning to get the answer. You know you can’t possibly get 4 liters of water in the 3 liter bucket – it has to be in the 5 liter bucket.

Order a four liter bucket off eBay.

Fill it to the brim.

That's four liters.

Fill the 3 liter up and pour into 5 liter. Fill up 3 liter again and pour until 5 is now full. That leaves exactly 1 liter left in the 3 liter container. Empty the 5 container and pour the 1liter left in the 3 container into the 5 container. Fill up the 3 container again and pour into the 5. Now you have exactly 4 liters in the 5.

No it's not. Use the hose, measure depth, fold back on itself to find half the length. The coonass way. That will give you 4 liters while everyone else is sitting around scratching their arse trying to come up with a better plan.

I'll take the prize sir.

1) fill up 3L bucket and pour in the 5L bucket.
2) fill up 3L bucket and pour into 5L bucket until it is filled
3) empty 5L bucket and pour remaining 1L from 3L bucket into the 5L bucket
4) fill up 3L bucket and pour into 5L bucket

Winner! You must be an investment banker. If not, you should try. You'd do well in the interview based on a sample size of 1 correct answer.
