I kind of agree. Like 2 weeks jail for first offense. Sure would simplify the statute too.

Not true. The local and state cops are MILKING the federal government out of money to do these checkpoints. They're likely committing fraud as well. The lead DUI cop claims like 4,000 hours of OVERTIME every year which gets billed to the Feds.
