Everyone keeps saying jesus. There's no Jesus without abraham. Hes pretty much the inventor of religion, Jews, Christians, Muslims all recognize him as pretty much the beginning of each religion.
if not abraham, then it's Moses easily before Jesus.

LULZ, Abraham and Moses....there is not a shred of evidence either of these people existed.

Damn straight. I've always wondered what was going on in his head that made him do that.

As far as pure technology goes, I still go with Archimedes.

if we're talking about indirect spreading, then this thread ends up a debate between 2 people

1. whichever motherfricker figured out how to harness fire

or

2. whichever motherfricker figured out agriculture

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say "the millenial". Each and every one of us. We are changing the world by revolutionizing social media and speaking our minds like occupy wall street, etc

So clearly, the final answer is "some guy."

Thanks everybody. This has been a fascinating discussion.

Well then really it would be whichever motherfricker figured out how to make beer. Some suggest that agriculture really got it's start because people wanted to settle in one area to raise barley or something similar to make beer.

In fairness, it's really "some guys" since I doubt only one dude figured out fire and single handedly spread the news.

Well, this was always destined to devolve into groups trying to shout down each other, especially since "Jesus" was one of the main contenders.

Modern archeology is disputing that. Evidence of written language predating the Sumerians has apparently been discovered in lower Egypt.

Hammurabi.

His codified laws were the first or earliest existing system put into writing...including the presumption of innocence and the right to present evidence in one's behalf.

His code was used as a model of legal and judicial reasoning all throughout history by every civilization in the West and Middle east.

What I'm trying to say is that the desire for ingredients for beer is what prompted agriculture and a move away from a nomadic lifestyle.

I'm far from an expert, but the evidence uncovered is from an ancient workers' village. Many if not most of them existed to build the tombs and monuments glorifying the rulers they served, whose rule, as far back as can be evidenced, is based on their connection to or representation of the deities of the day.

But that's language. No one really knows what civilization first emerged. However, since the evidence of gods occur at the same time language appears, it can be presumed this practice had previously existed for a long time.

Religion is the basis for societal unity in both cases, but its origin as such cannot be traced.

So basically, no one knows.
