Just started watching the 4th episode. Within the first 10 minutes they mentioned having a magic hammer or a suit of metal, referring to Thor and Ironman.

Is Daredevil in the same universe as the avengers?

Yes it is. All of the Marvel/Netflix collaborations will be part of the MCU

So it was an obvious reference to the Avengers.

Yep. Along with the real estate chick's reference to "The Incident" which was the Chitauri Invasion.

Yea, same universe. Hell's Kitchen was destroyed during the NY attack.

They've done a great job letting us know it all ties in without being over the top about it.

Yeah this is how they got around the fact that Hell's Kitchen in NYC today isn't as bad as it was when the original Daredevil comic began. It was destroyed in the Battle of New York so now the crime lords have risen up to take advantage during the rebuild.
