From NOLA. Here in Birmingham with wife for school a few days. Will be leaving Birmingham around 4pm. Game starts at 7.

How much traffic will I hit going to game?

Any alternate routes from Birmingham to avoid rush hour in Atlanta?

No tickets yet. Where would you recommend sitting?

Where do you suggest parking?

ETA:
Wil be leaving Birmingham 4pm CST, so may be pushing it getting there for 7 EST.

traffic on i20 is going to suck once you get past Carollton at that time of day. Least it has been for me the last few times. I'm not from Atl so maybe someone else will have some more insight.

You're gonna need to leave earlier.

The upper decks right behind home plate usually aren't crowded, the sun isn't too bad, and you can usually move up to the first few rows on a weekday game.

For simplicity, if you get on 75 and get off at the exit for Turner Field and the Capital, follow the signs until you see blue lot and park there.

You're giving yourself 2 hours from the time you leave bham until opening pitch. That's not enough time. You're going to get a bit of traffic in bham before you get on I20, then you have to navigate with parking and whatnot when you get there. You won't get there in like the 5th inning or anything...but don't be surprised when you aren't there by first pitch.

You'll be going into the city at around 7ish, so you shouldn't have much. From 4-6 people leaving the city, it is an absolute nightmare. But you're going against it.

Watch your speed in Villa Rica and Douglasville. Traffic going in might not be too bad till you get to Thornton Rd. After that it could be hit or miss.

StubHub is great for mid week game tickets.

The sun is in right field, so I would recommend getting seats on the third base side if you want to stay in the shade.

I don't know much about I20 east traffic patterns though. Good luck on that one. Driving through the hood will probably save you some time. I go through all sorts of shady areas to avoid some traffic on bad days.

Download Waze to your phone, that should help you get around the Atlanta area traffic. Gonna be tough to make it in that time frame, might miss an inning or two. Mid-week game you go through StubHub or FrontRowTickets. I usually park in Orange Lot, shouldn't be too expensive to get a parking tag for mid-week game.

Last year they did $1 skyline seats on weeknights. We bought those and never went to the actual seats (they are all the way at the top). You couldnt buy them online, only at the gate. Turner field is notoriously lenient on seat poaching. We'd get the $1 tickets, go drink at the top of the chop for the first few innings, and then go grab a seat on the third base line, usually not too far behind the dugout.

That's becoming the norm. If that seat is empty anyway, the team would rather have someone in it so the crowd looks better on TV.

Thanks for the responses! I don't mind missing an inning or 2. Or 3. I have only been to one other MLB game and that was in Tampa 10 plus years ago. Was in awe then at the field, and that was indoors. Hopefully the weather holds up. I'm pretty pumped.

shouldn't be too bad at that time of day going into the city. You might run into a little bit around Thornton Rd (MM44), but other than that you should be good.

Do not get on the connector (I75), i repeat do not get on I75. That is where the traffic will be. Get off of I-20 on Spring St Exit 56A. Turn right on McDaniel St, then left on Fulton St, then right on Capitol Ave. You should avoid most of the traffic except game traffic. Park in stadium parking.

anywhere along the 3rd base line. If not you'll be looking into the sun.

stadium parking and only stadium parking.
