2 inches above the crawfish, a lot less than most people, keeps the seasoning from being diluted

Also try bringing your water to a rolling boil before adding the seasoning then immediately add crawfish, keeps from loosing your seasoning in the steam

Near the 4th hole, which in my pot is less than half.

fill basket with desired amount of live crawfish .... 1 sack, 2 sacks

place basket in pot and fill with water until top of crawfish are covered

remove basket of crawfish and scribe a line at water level mark on inside of pot

or if you have a traditional large mixing paddle, place in pot of water & mark a line at the appropriate water level

If there's not enough water when you drop them you can always add right away. Won't hurt.

I guess steam carries salt now?

It's amazing the amount of physics that crawfish seems to bend

Only enough to ALMOST cover the crawfish.

Seen too many people dilute their seasoning by filling up the pot.

"I added THIS MUCH seasoning"

Yea. with way too much water.

Put more seasoning....... no use in having heavily seasoned water if only the bottom 1/2 of the crawfish are soaking in the pot.

10 gallons....is exactly perfect for a sack. I measured it once, scratched a notch in my pot and no more guesswork. Water is just enough to cover the crawfish when dumped in.....no wasted seasoning.

This is what I do for the first drop of the day. Second drop I don't add any water, and I add a little bit of seasoning. Third drop I add about a quart of water and some more seasoning.

Yes, you lose seasoning but you also lose water. I'd let the seasoning boil a little bit to make sure it's all dissolved. Also, you can put the lid on to prevent losing a bunch of water from steam.
