150 people were killed in that plane crash and it's all over the news and people are talking about it nonstop.

150 killed in Kenya this morning, most of which were university students gunned down at their school, and that garners a lot less attention.

What's the reason for this?

All news - local, national, international - seems to focus on the horrific, negative shite. I can't watch it anymore.

Both are tragic. We can study a crash and strive to prevent them as much as possible. Trying to get involved in Africa will only lead to further loss of life.

An American (or European in this case) life is worth about 100 Africans

I'd say we are absolutely desensitized from horrific news in general, much less the horrors on the other side of the world.

It seems we get monthly mass killings somewhere in Africa, and have for several years. I think people are accustomed to it.

One possible answer I think is that people can identify more with the plane crashers if they travel a lot. Maybe the topic is more sensationalized.

But then again, most people that post here are in college or have family/friends in college.

I can't help but think that if the attack in Kenya happened in other parts of the world, it would be more widely publicized.

So I don't know.

That's not even the most horrific thing to happen in Africa in the past 6 months.

Because many of us could have been on the plan that wacko nut job crashed...it's harder to get hit by Muslim wackos here in the modern west.

Try minutes.

Liberia alone could handle that amount of horror in minutes.
