Young the Giant will headline Groovin' 2015. Parachute, Coin and local band The Dulac Smack will also perform at the free concert sponsored by LSU's Student Government and LSU Students on Target.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Baton Rouge River Center -- rather than the LSU Parade Ground -- on April 17 at 6:30 p.m. Because of the planned venue change, the event was renamed simply to Groovin' from Groovin' on the Grounds.

for the amount of $$$ they have to pay for talent...yikes

Not a fan of YTG but at least they are getting a band that is still relevant

This. Weezer was a great grab for GOTG last year, but most of their picks have been meh at best. LSU struggles to get good names because they heavily censor the artists, the concerts are alcohol free, and they have to all have an anti-alcohol and drugs message. Most artists refuse to submit to those constraints.

This is a big step down from last year. I'll pass.

Not sure if I'm going or not. I kinda want to see them, hated missing Weezer last year. If I go, I'll be pre-gaming at my house first.

So the wife and I went last night. My review:

Dulac Smack...they got something going on. Nice stage presence and they sounded great live.

COIN...shaky start and kind of awkward on stage with crowd interaction but they killed it once they hit stride a couple of songs in. They got the students pumped up.

Parachute...frick ALL. This is the worst live band I have ever had the displeasure of giving the chance to rape my ears. Front man is a huge DOUCHE with no charisma and annoying live vocal style. CHEEZY arse garbage with a saxophone

Young The Giant...brought the house down. One of the few bands that sound BETTER live than recorded by a long shot. Atmosphere and pacing of the songs was perfect. They have progressed well as a band both in songwriting and performance. Hope they jump back in the studio and start working on a third album.

The floor of the River Center was approx half full for YTG. The lower level seats where the wife and I were had about maybe 300 people. I would estimate about 2500-3000 or so but I could be wrong. Would like to check official attendance. Far less than what they were projecting it seemed which is a shame, cause YTG has really honed their live show and deserved a bigger crowd.

Shitty thing though...wife wanted a damn Coke and they closed the concessions about 30 mins before YTG took the stage. Didn't understand it. Lots of people bitching that they couldn't buy concessions between the last opener and the headliner.

I wish they would have got Gary Clark Jr. before he blew up.
