Backhanded Compliments/"Uncomplimentary" Compliments

My girlfriend and I were curled up on the couch watching a movie last night and she says to me, "It's so much better cuddling with you lately."
I ask, "What do you mean by that?"
She replies, "You're just more comfy since you lost all of that hard muscle. You're so much softer."
For the record, I've been having some hip problems since last summer and my elbows starting bothering me a few months ago. I quit weightlifting around Christmas and decided to just my diet accordingly (I didn't want to gain a bunch of fat from the caloric surplus).
Because I am unable to really lift, I've been doing a lot of ab work, walking often, and riding the stationary bike several days a week just to stay in shape.
Consequently, I've lost around 30 pounds and the majority of the muscle I spent a couple of years trying to gain. While she was attempting to be nice with her comment, it really fricked with me considering the present circumstances.
Has anyone else received a similar remark or "compliment"?
ETA: Point taken, Guys. Would anyone like to contribute to the original intent of this thread?
I just wanted to know if anyone has ever complimented you and it felt more insulting than positive.

She didn't mean anything negative by saying that. Your insecurities are fricking with you.

Not really, I've only once received a backhanded compliment before from your wife while on the couch, but then again I'm not fat.

I've noticed this over my four decades on this planet- guys that lift weights all the time are extremely insecure about their self-image. Like a 14 year old girl, you can destroy their self-esteem with a simple offhand comment like, "Hmmm, you look like you're putting on some fat" or "Your biceps seem to be losing some definition."
Try it some time. It's fun watching them go into a tailspin.

First off Boy, she isn't my wife. Clearly reading comprehension isn't your strong suit.
Secondly, I am anything but fat. I went from 195 to about 168. Considering I am about 6'0", neither weight qualifies me as being overweight by any means.
Thirdly, frick off with your juvenile, sophomoric comments.

Man you're a sensitive one
And you didn't lose 30 lbs of the majority muscle, in less than 1 year

The correct response would have been to show her you have not lost all of your hard muscles.

Based on your apparent temper/rage issues, I think I know how you put on the 30lbs of muscle.

A few real men on the OT may want a shot at it.

So you're implying that I am a liar? I'm 23, physically active, and extremely health conscious. It's not that hard for me to obtain a caloric deficit or lose weight, especially once I quit cycling creatine and started doing fasted cardio.
I'm sorry that your metabolism sucks or that you have a hard time believing that I am a natural hard-gainer.

I'm not saying that you didn't lose 30 lbs, I'm saying it wasn't majority muscle.
And you really need to chill out
