Thinking about taking my boys this year. Anybody been to Daytona Motor Speedway? Any advice?

Bring sunscreen, it will be hot as hell if you plan on being there all day before the race

I would go see all the vendors and watch the Xfinity race the day before if they have one. The configuration of the grandstands is changing but make sure you sit hit high enough to see more of the track.

Bring hearing protection.

NASCAR in general is an awesome experience.

Highly recommend it. DMS is alot of fun even for the casual race fan. The beach is nice too, especially if you are used to gulf coast beaches.

I can't stad NASCAR, but went to the Pepsi 400 one year on a bachelor party.

It's fricking awesome in person, especially at Daytona since the cars are basically wide open and LOUD AS shite every time they pass. As much as I don't really like the sport at all, it was one of the more fun sporting events I've gone to outside of my wheelhouse. I'd easily recommend it to anyone.

Also, Lollipop is a solid strip jernt out there (not sure how old your boys are though).

Ditto for what others have said. Rent the headphones if you can, changes your whole experience.

In case you have not been to a race and you are not aware, you can bring coolers into the track (bring soft coolers, I've seen hard coolers be turned away). So you can pack them with all the beer and food you want. Great time.

Bring lots of water.

Take the time to walk all the way to the fence. The rush of those cars going by at 200mph literally feet from you is awesome.

Been to that race, 2 500s, the sprint unlimited race, and the Rolex 24. Bring lots of beer and water

Never been to Daytona, but watch enough to know this is true. Getting out of the gas for even a second and 15 cars blow by.

I want to go some day.

Right, but I meant that they are wide open barring anything happening (wrecks, cautions, etc.). But yeah, it's pedal to the metal and loud and awesome.

We didn't do the headphones thing (I think there were limited options for that...this was back in like 2007 I believe), but I've heard that it's cool.

Also this:

So much this...it's pretty amazing.

I just watched the videos I have of the sprint unlimited and at the Rolex 24. I literally had the gopro on the fence and the difference in the sound of the NASCARs (the rumble) is staggering

The smell is the best. I go for the 500 week almost every year. Catch the duels, the truck race, the xfinity race and the cup race. It's a lot of fun. Bring beer and food. July race is fun too...once the sun goes down it's solid, it's windy so it's not too hot. Rent the scanner so you can listen to the race broadcast and the drivers radios.

The grand stand renovation is awesome, you won't be disappointed. If you are making the weekend trip go to the xfinity race Saturday and get tickets to the fan zone for both days so you can go watch them work on the 500 cars in the pits.
See Ya there.

1. Spend the few dollars and rent scanners.
2. Pay attention to the track info. You can get to the drivers with little effort and get autographs/pictures.
3. There is more to see than just the race.
4. If you have the chance catch the auction after the Xfinity series race. Look up speedway children's charities.
