Near the anytime fitness on hwy 44. Looks to be about a yr old Rottweiler mix, not fixed, no chip or tag etc. Knocked on houses next to gym - neighbors stated its been wandering around in nearby fields for several days. Posted on ascension lost animal fb page.

Question. If we decide to keep it how long should we wait to to be contacted before we get it fixed and tested for heart worms etc?
Thanks.

If you love it, set it free.

If it doesn't get run over, picked up by animal control, or shot, it's yours.

No chip or tags - I would keep the dog, if picked up it will just go to a shelter and if it isn't adopted within a week or so it will be put down.

get tested for Heartworms now. Wait a while to get fixed. I'd wait 30 days to get fixed.

Ok thanks for the replies. I'll bring it Monday to get it tested - this was the same vet that scanned the dog for a chip. It might be tough to wait thirty days to get it fixed - I'm already tired of this dog showing me his red lipstick.

Good for you for picking him up wanting to keep him. It kills me how people can watch an obviously stray or lost dog wander around and do nothing to help.
FYI having him fixed will not necessarily keep his lipstick hidden; especially if he is already matured. It will take some time for that to stop completely...

he's just proud of that thing and was humping a lady in the parking lot when we found him.
