Ring sizing question

So, I bought an engagement ring for the future Mrs. GEAUXT (Yeah, yeah). The ring has to be resized smaller by 1.5 sizes. The jeweler called to tell me that they'll have to remake the setting because that big of a change in size may make some of the diamonds unstable.
My question is...should I expect to get the gold they take out of the ring? Considering I paid for it. I'm new to this whole ring thing.

I didn't think about it when they called me. I guess it's not really that big a deal...but as a resident I'm not exactly rolling in dough so every little bit helps

I can't imagine just the gold would be worth much, and I seriously doubt they would give it to you. The cost of the ring was not due to the gold in it, but the diamonds. (If you don't believe me, think about how cheaply you can get men's plain gold bands.)

Do rings 1.5 sizes larger cost more than smaller rings? Considering you're putting a diamond on this ring, the 0.2 mm bit of 10k gold should be just a drop in the bucket of the overall price of the ring.
Unless you're going cheap and getting her something under 1 karat.

It's true that it will loosen the setting, but not sure it will have to be completely remade, but tightened a bit.
Don't expect any gold back. Hope he does a good job.
