NFL Hall of Fame used to be less stat-oriented than it is now - legends were admissible.

It's still got a long way to go to catch up with MLB stat-geekdom, though.

Just out of curiosity, where does one find old AFL games like that to watch? I would love to watch some of those.
Just scouting out games every now and then on TV or through old VHS tapes. NFL Network is usually good for playing an old, classic game every now and then, and my dad had some old VHS tapes of old games.

I actually need to hunt them down because he had an awesome one with all Super Bowl highlights up until around the mid 1990's.

You have an irrational hate toward Luck

He'll end up being the best QB in the league, easily.

That could be so, but he is a turnover machine as it stands.

He was #2 in the NFL in turnovers behind Jay Cutler during the 2014 NFL season, IIRC.

FWIW, I like Andrew Luck a lot. Awesome guy, awesome teammate and potentially awesome football player.

He's already awesome. He carries that team. He's as much of a sure thing as far as becoming an all time great that I've ever seen. Yea, he turns it over, but so does Brees. I don't think anyone doubts Brees as being one of the better quarterbacks. Is say luck is around 5th-8th best QB in the league already.

Had a family friend who passed recently. Was a scout for the Cowboys in the 70s. his descriptions of joe Namath make you sound foolish. Namath would absolutely destroy this league today. He had the one receiver who just ran go routes and deep posts. 4,000 yard season and you want to call him overrated? Namath isn't a guy with career numbers. Rip up Aaron Rodgers' knees, bruise up his ribs in perpetuity and stick him in the 1960s and 70s AFL/NFL, and get back to me.

You hear all of these guys today complaining about concussions and injuries. They're playing 2 hand touch relative to the NFL Namath played in

. Archie is the most overrated player in the history of sports.

by whom? He's beloved by many Saints fans, but he's not Canton or anything.

Archie career:
125 TD's, 173 INT's
I know the Saints OL sucked

It was just a totally different era. No free agency and the info about the draft was nothing. Player evaluations were nothing like now, a few teams like Pitt and Dallas figured out the importance of the draft and how to scout players and that's why they lapped the field. It was nothing like today.

In an era where the game was no friend to QBs and WRs. True his interception numbers are up and completion percentages are down compared to the other QBs of that era, but that's because they didn't throw the ball as much as he did. He was the first QB in history to throw more than 500 passes in a season. And that was before the underneath crossing routes of the West Coast offense were developed. Namath's favorite plays were deep posts and go routes. He was a gunslinger before it was safe to be a gunslinger in the NFL.

And? He just threw deep routes, and CBs could mug the shite out of receivers.

I'm sorry he and the coaching staff weren't smart enough to adjust to other schemes.

"Look, Joe, just chunk the shite out of the ball. Go deep every play. That's the plan."

fricking retarded.

Very hard to judge NFL passing numbers in the 60's based on todays numbers.

He wasn't really overrated, I think his bold prediction before the super bowl earned him his fame. It wouldn't make waves today.

Bill Walsh would disagree with you. He called him one of the most accurate passers he had ever seen.

As down to Earth as Bill Walsh was, what did you expect him to say?

"Eh, he is kind of accurate..."
"Eh, he's not very accurate..."

They were the first team to ever break 500 pass attempts. You come across as some nerd who just reads numbers

You go tell any of his contemporaries, coaches, etc. shite go tell that to your God manning. Clown OP
