Isn't the largest wolf killed on record in North America 175 pounds?

Honestly that video is staged.

They intentionally let the wolves into the pen with the sheep, held the dog back for dramatic effect, then let him loose to kill the wolves.

That video was edited to pieces as well.

Damn, at 3:55 in the video, that dog goes to town on the wolf's junk.

Not sure of the record - Gray Wolf males run about 100 pounds, on average - a big specimen is 120 to 125, but rarely do they get over 140 or 150.

It was supposed to say 160. I have fat thumbs.

To put it into perspective though...

This is a 120lb wolf.

Nothing is excess on a wolf.

The problem arises with hybrids. A guy in our hunting club has a mounted black wolf hybrid he killed in Saskatchewan that is bigger than the largest dog I've ever encountered.

As coyotes have bred with wolves and dogs they have gotten larger. As wolves have bred with the larger LGDs they have gotten larger as well.

A solid but strict wolf management program (i.e. selling wolf tags) would cut back on hybridization (as these would make the most attractive prizes) and help manage the populations well.

Wolves had a natural instinct to avoid man, man's animals and man's property - but since they became endangered (because they are gorgeous, but large, capable and dangerous pests to livestock), they've lost that and don't appear to associate "man" with "death" any longer.

That needs to be reversed. If so, I think there can be somewhat peaceful coexistence.
