You can have a knife made by a local knife maker for a decent price.
If he has a particular interest, they can make a knife out of an interesting material.
I have one made with soft cypress handles which have been stabilised.

But if he happens to be in this area, we do have some awesome local knife makers. They make functional art.

I can't argue with that
I meant more along the lines of getting a decent quality knife engraved.
I've been considering engraving a few kershaw knives myself as gifts to friends and family.
This is actually almost exactly what I was suggesting.
