Gift idea for a boss

I am finishing up graduate school in may (I am a graduate assistant so I do not make much money). I would like to get my boss (he has been my mentor and has helped me through graduate school and get a professional job) a gift as a thank you. What are some thoughtful, but not extremely expensive gift ideas?
I am OT Poor.

A mug with your smiling face on it.
Underneath your face are the words "I fricked Your Wife."

Give him a photo of the two of ya'll having a good time together. Get it framed and put it on his desk.

Does he play golf?
A box of Pro V1's with his initials stamped in is a nice not too expensive gift.

A custom made name plate maybe?

Does he drink?
A nice bottle of whiskey, and a nice whiskey glass, maybe a thank you note too.
If not, a $100 gift card to a store he would like, and a thank you note.

The use of the word during at the end of this really made me laugh for some reason.v

Yeah he does. Where I work just built a new golf course too so that is a quality idea.

Personalized pocket knives are common appreciation gifts that can be fairly inexpensive.

But the quality of the knife is shite with those customized deals
