Those are some pretty large discrepancies. Maybe more training and less dancing with the stars would have helped.

BilJ: there were plenty of people, on this board and in the media, that cried foul over the SEC defensive player of the year being cut.

and did I not display evidence of people saying just that? My point was, you stated no one was of the belief Sam is not in the NFL due to his sexual preference, which is false because there are clearly some people who believed that at the time.

BilJ: no.....no I did not.

You quoted me as saying "plenty of people in the media said sam was blackballed." which I did not say

I asked if there were notable media members to say it.You posted random quotes, no clue who actually said them, so I'm not sure how you can say that proved me wrong. If you thought I literally meant no one in the world ever said that, yes you are correct, but that would be extremely odd on your part. I'd assume you could be discerning enough to understand I mean anyone notable, not out.com or outsports.com, I didn't realize I'd have to spell it out that explicitly. When he was cut, the media swirl was very quiet, wouldn't you agree?

So why were people crying foul? For another reason, what reason is that? It was reasonable, in this instance, for me ot infer that is what you were saying, hell, you said it in those terms later on.

Not good enough to be a starter. If you don't start then you need to play special teams which he doesn't. In other words he couldn't contribute on an NFL roster. That's why he isn't there anymore. I don't have a problem with Sam and he never didn't anything that bothered me in his time. He just wasn't good enough.

It's funny that people still make this joke.

Sooooo many posters were ranting about the media backlash that would happen when he was cut, and it never happened.

Was there even 1 notable media member to say anything of the sort? .
Glad someone noticed this. Pretty much everybody I knew on this board and off thought I was a heretic for being so sure that there would be no real backlash.

The bottom line is he would be in the league if he didn't suck dick.

Doesn't sound like he's a very good player.

I'm glad he got a chance. If he were the next coming of Bruce Smith no one would give a damn about his sexual preferences. But he's a marginal prospect. No need to put up with him when you can find an equally marginal project that won't bring the circus with him.

That British guy that comes on Lebetard sometimes trotted out the "lowest sec dpoty" line and implied it was because he was gay. That's all I've got.

John Amaechi. Yea, good call. He was pretty adament. I listen to every Lebby show(embarassing I know, but it's from work ), so yea that was definitely 1 guy who came right out and said it.

This is always how I've pretty much felt on it.

An openly gay player being drafted is a pretty big deal, at least for society. So I get some of that hype. But the media did blow it the frick up into some hugely overrated thing (and social media had something to do with it too). But if he was knocking everyone on their asses he'd still be on a roster. And the worst part about MS (aside from the apparent lack of talent/work ethic) is the bullshite that comes along with him like you said.

I mean shite, at one point, weren't there cameras following him around for some TV show on Oprah's network or something like that? That's ridiculous for a team that's trying to focus on football and prepare for a game/season.

He's a marginal player that overvalues himself obviously. No team wants the media circus for a marginal player; hence why tebow has been "blackballed" as well.

Don't hear anyone talking about him not being signed because of his religion; because that's not the reason.

But let's not act like there isn't a chance some teams discriminated against him. Our states are still split on gay marriages

Of course there's a chance he was discriminated against but the reason he isn't in the NFL is because

He sucks and can't contribute on special teams.besr thing he did for his celebrity was come out because he'd be a nobody without it.

so it's irrelevant

He and Tebow were both media whores who did nothing publicly to try and put a stop to it. They both seemed to enjoy all the attention they were getting. Combine that distraction with marginal (at best) talent and you have two guys who are out of the league. This really isn't hard to figure out.

Not saying you're doing so, but you really can't blame them for putting that attention to work on their behalf to make money.

If either one of them had gone into their first training camp and told the media "If your questions aren't about football or this team only, then I will not answer them" and actually stuck to that policy, they might both still be around. They both let the media circus fester around their training camps and no team wants that unless the player is really, really good.

ETA: The above scenario only holds water if Sam and Tebow wanted to be the best football players possible and didn't have any alternative agendas.
