Did UCF receiver Breshad Perriman just run a sub-4.2-second 40-yard dash?

We received a text message via a trusted NFL scout that, frankly, we had to check twice: He wrote that UCF wide receiver Breshad Perriman just ran a 4.15-second 40-yard dash at his pro day on Wednesday.

But when you see the school's official video — and their report of times ranging in the 4.22- to 4.27-second range — you know this much: Perriman ran fast.

Perriman will be a 1st rounder if true.

That is great for the kid. I hope he gets paid for his hard work.

However, what is the real difference between a 4.22 and a 4.42 (don't say .2 seconds) on the field, wearing pads, running routes and getting hit?

Had 90 yards receiving in Beef O'Brady's Bowl. Rated a 2-star prospect coming out of high school. Is the son of Brett Perriman, who played for 10 years in the NFL. Brett had 108 catches for 1,488 yards for the Detroit Lions in 1995.

if the time is accurate, that's awfully fast for a guy his size.

isn't he 6'2'' and over 200 lbs?

A step and a half straight line? Which is the difference between being covered and wide open in the NFL. However, I'd think (aside from hands, obviously) size, route running, lateral quickness, vertical, etc. would be more important than .2 sec in evaluating a WR.

Don't know much about the kid, but from what I read he has a great size/speed combination, however runs sloppy routes and has inconsistent hands. I wouldn't mind a WR in the first 2 rounds, but I feel like OG/ILB/OLB are too great of needs to take a player this raw.

What's crazy is it doesn't even look like he got off that fast.

(I am slow as shite and don't know much about running)

Yep. Listed at 212 at the combine, I think.

But my real question is, why does his 40 time make him a 1st rounder today, but not yesterday?

Agreed, but how often are guys getting off clean?

This could move him above Jaelen Strong and keep him on the board at 31.

Now saints can move up to 4th pick and get the D guy they may want. Oakland can draft Perriman in lieu of White now.

.2 seconds is pretty huge though.

You're talking about the difference between Cooks and Colston

I agree... Honestly didn't look that fast but then again I have no idea what 4.22 is supposed to look like
