Ott said Johnny was forced to hire him and that he'd be gone after this season. Looks like he was right.

Musselman was a good addition for a year and I think it was a mutually beneficial arrangement, but we all knew it was short term. He will either take the San Diego job (alum) or the Nevada job.

As an outsider looking in I saw nothing that Musselman brought to the table or should I have said was allowed to bring to the table. Something seemed to be very off with this hire and with his lack of being allowed to coach on the side line. Of course I have no idea what went on during practices. Just my opinion.

I honestly don't know how or why the whole rumor of Musselman's under-utilization started, but I heard many times in player interviews them reference Coach Musselman's influence.

It's easy to just say Musselman was under-utilized, but I just don't see that. I mean he was an assistant coach. Jones has final say, but I would be shocked if he didn't allow Eric to do his job.

i'll regress and say that it was an odd "relationship" at least the non-verbals during the games gave me that feeling

Alleva put him in CJJ's lap. Maybe Alleva is skeptical of CJJ's X's and O's ability, which is stating the obvious.

every time Alleva would come on the morning drive with Colatta and the prince, he would always note how we lost some we shouldn't

Alleva wasn't on the "hire Johnny" bandwagon, but the alumni made him do it. Johnny Jones is a Dale Brown/Collis Temple hire.

Of course, Alleva made his own hire with Trent Johnson and that didn't turn out so well. So, he was basically forced to listen to the alumni.

With a big season on the horizon for LSU, why not wait one more year and have a shot at a much better head coaching job?

LSU became a MUCH more efficient defensive team this year. That was a direct result of Musselman who Jones said at the very beginning was brought in to handle the defense. Just because Musselman wasn't losing his mind on the sidelines or drawing up plays on the greaseboard in time outs doesn't mean that he didn't bring anything to the table. There were more than a few times where he was calling out instructions to LSU on the defensive end.

His tenure, in which he compiled a record of 117-144 overall, and 51-73 in the WCC, was marred by a point-shaving scheme that resulted in star former point guard Brandon Johnson pleading guilty to conspiracy. Johnson, who was not recruited by Grier, was sentenced to six months in prison.

A former assistant coach Thaddeus “T.J.” Brown, was sentenced to one year in prison for his role. No evidence was presented that Grier knew anything about the scheme.

Sweet!

just give Gray extended minutes and you won't even have to approach them about point shaving
