Some NCAA documents related to sanctions against USC were made public recently. They appear to show malicious intent against the program, and contrived evidence based on inference rather than proof. One NCAA official compared the case to the OKC bombing. LINK /

Just because some dude is bad at analogies doesnt mean USC didn't break the rules.

Having said that, I think everyone thinks USC and Ohio State have been treated pretty unfairly by the NCAA compared to some other schools. UNC should really have had the death penalty by now.

But then there is the whole "cooperation with the NCAA" issue that yall mightve shot yourselves in the foot with.

Wasn't one of the biggest issues the NCAA had with your old AD who was being stubborn and uncooperative?

The documents clearly state that the NCAA felt the very fact that USC went out and hired Kiffin in response, shows that they were thumbing their nose at the NCAA

The NCAA just responded in kind

Played with ineligible player receiving impermissible benefits for multiple years

Forfeit games

Not overstepped

I think USC responded to that perception by firing him. It's going to be interesting to see what, if any, response Pat Haden will give now that the corruption long suspected in the NCAA is in the spotlight. The fallout from this might just be the catalyst for the power conferences to self-govern with respect to the money sports, and rid themselves from the NCAA's hypocrisy.

These sentiments are laughable in light of what's been going on at big time schools everywhere, for decades. I can offer you proof that the same thing is going on at your favorite program; well at least the NCAA's version of "proof", which is nothing more than inference, hearsay and conjecture.

USC was hit a lot harder than just forfeiting games

and USC had no power to make Bush cooperate

let's remember, USC (football) didn't actively violate rules. Bush (or his family) took benefits from a third party and was ineligible

USC was punished worse than programs who directly gave improper benefits to players. think about that

The point you are missing in your zeal to punish a team i'm guessing you don't like, is there are plenty of other examples of "Broke the rules and got caught" where the punishment was basically nothing. The whole concept of liberty is that everyone is treated equally under the law, that is not the case with the NCAA. Arbitrary punishments are never good.

I don't think OSU has been treated unfairly. Especially when you consider the pattern of transgressions by clarett, tressel, pryor, and probably others I'm sure. At some point you have to teach people a lesson.

USC needed to be dropped a peg or two. They deserved what they got. Could have been worse, imho.

I honestly don't know why the big schools still allow the NCAA to police them.

I agree with this. Can the school/coach control a players family or all his free time? As a player what would be your moral code? Would you just take the free education or would you expect a car or money?

Compensation for players is coming. The O'Bannon case is basically busting that issue open like a piñata. In that light "impermissible benefits" are a joke. So is the NCAA's legitimacy.

and it will ruin college football. It will essentially just be a minor league system for the NFL. And it will suck.

Isn't CF already just a minor league system for the NFL? I'll still watch and go to games.

you aren't going to get much sympathy on an LSU-centered message board, which is a bit ironic since Joe McKnight was one of the USC players accused of taking improper benefits (dodged a bullet LSU fans!).

The NCAA did overstep the USC penalties to the football program. Unfortunately for USC they lumped the Reggie Bush and OJ Mayo investigations into one.
