When possible, set them outside in direct sun light. Best deodorizer there is and it's free.
If that's not an option, spray them with Sure unscented deodorant.
Sure USD will take the smell out of most things. Had a bud once that kept a can in his car and would spray his shirt with it to eliminate the perfume smell after a night of "dancing" with the ladies at a nightclub.
If that passed the "old lady" test well . . . .

Most people probably wear the same pair of work boots every day.
Get two or even three pairs of work boots and rotate them.
I have to think that allowing the boots to air out for a day or two will work, just like the other poster said.
