Pretty cool the Tulane pitcher patted him on the back after he scored as if to say "nice play" !

Bet he would've been pretty damn close if he went full speed from the batter's box. Didn't really hit that last gear till almost to 1st base when he saw the fielder missed.

That is 360 feet. That is flying when you think he has to slow down and concentrate on hitting the base and not losing his footing.

Bo Jackson was 13 seconds around the bases. So 14 seconds is fast as hell

Is that a timed run just starting at the plate and going all out? Or was it timed after hitting the ball and then taking off? I have to think the momentum of a batter's swing (even more so for a left handed batter) makes the out-of-the-box start cost at least a second.

Either way ... props to Laird!!!

That was off of a swing . So after the ball was hit, then around the bases, to the plate, 13 seconds

Didn't even really get out the box either. That triple later he was all business at contact.

If you take into account the turns, it's about 380 ft.

Yeah but you get additional "pushes" off the bases though. I always use to hear that crap when playing. 14 seconds is flat out getting it.

The bases slow you down if anything. 1, because you have to touch them so you might not being able to hit them full stride. 2, they are raised. You don't get push off of that, it messes with your rhythm

I think really excellent base runners that use that inside foot can reduce their turn arc quit a bit but you aren't getting any mechanical advantage like a starter block or something.

I use an app to video my son's baseball swing and it allows you to compare 2 videos at once. You can lock them in at a certain point for timing and also control the speed of the video. I took video of both Stevenson's and Laird's infield singles to the 2nd baseman last weekend. In regular speed it looked to be a tie. In slow motion Laird's foot landed on the bag while Stevenson's was only abot 3" to 4" from landing. But they are pretty damn even.
