What is the rant's take on Cannizaro thus far? I've see some griping over the low OBP so I wanted to try and put some numbers into context. We aren't drawing walks, but when you look at the numbers, the difference in approach is clear.

.327 team BA leads SEC
.484 slugging leads SEC
39 stolen bases 2nd in SEC
However, 83 walks 3rd lowest in the league.
Only 11 sac bunts

This team is swinging at fastballs early in the count, and they're putting pressure on the defense when they're on the base paths. I can live with the low OBP. I think this approach forces teams to actually make plays and beat us rather than beating ourselves. The problem arises when we run into a dominant pitcher. We have a lot of 3-4 pitch at bats, and it really makes it difficult to run a guy when he could get out of an inning in less than 15 pitches. What says the rant?

edit: about 10 years behind coaching changes

Cannizaro*

We are free swingers at the plate. It is paying off now. I just hope it does in the big park that matters.

Too soon….

And I had wondered aloud last week why Canevari wasn't as Episcopal any more…nobody had a good answer. Seems fishy, but I am a conspiracy theorist so who knows...

We are putting the ball in play much more. Our strikeouts are extremely low as well.

The issue with this is when an opposing pitcher starts off the game really well only throwing 8-10 pitches per inning. We saw that this Thursday. We couldn't get into their bullpen which is a huge weakness of theirs.

But the approach changed on Friday and Saturday. We were taking Killian much deeper into counts and regardless of inning outcomes, his pitch count was getting very high and we got in the pen.

If we keep the approach from the last two games, our OBP will start to rise.

We are also last in the league in strikeouts. Our steals have gone down in conference play though. Only 3 steals in 6 games so far against mediocre competition

So far results have been good but would like to see them drive pitch counts up more. Other teams starters stay in longer than normal but LSU has also been hitting quality starters as well and putting pressure on them

I'm okay with that.

Also, I don't see near as many hit and runs anymore. I'm extremely happy about that.

You must not be watching the same LSU games that I am.

I have to admit that I was out of the loop this weekend. I kept up with the score, but couldn't follow the game.

But in the past, anytime we were not hitting, CPM decided that the hit and run was the best answer to end a slump. It usually just led to quick outs and low pitch counts for the opposing pitcher.

Our players are really aggressive. Its really exciting to watch. It's difficult to beat us 2/3 with averages like they have and their aggression. Specially with our pitching.

We are def way more aggressive early in the count . Lots of first pitch swings. Lots more laying off bad pitches. Like night and day to me. Give him a raise.......
