Why we lost & why it'll be better next year

Our offense is a quick score, rely on the fast break type of offense that lets the athletes get out and run. A lot of our points are in transition and within the first 15 seconds of the shot clock. Why we lost last night because of this:
1. We don't have a half court offense that can close a game out. We get stagnant. This is the flaw in our system, and it's a legitimate gripe to have about Coach Jones.
Why this won't get better: We're not changing philosophy and as long as we have this style of play we will struggle in the half court.
2. Because we don't have a half court offense, we need someone to close out games almost single handedly. M&M just really aren't closers and guys like Hornsby & Patterson are spot up shooters not 1 on 1 scorers.
Why this WILL get better: Insert Ben Simmons, Blakeney, and hopefully Newman. One of these guys will emerge as a closer and you won't see droughts in scoring when going to half court like last night.... however, unless we can get these types every year, this is a short term fix.
3. We just don't have or didn't develop the depth to close it out with our style
Why this will get better: This is our best chance at long term success. If Johnny continues to recruit at a competent level, we should have a deep enough bench year in and year out where we won't have such tired legs at the end of games. Obviously, we should be deeper next year. However, long term we won't be able to get the closers every year as discussed in the previous point but we can get depth to allow us to keep our pace and energy up at the end of games
All in all we have gotten better each year under Jones. I think he can get us to a level where we are consistently making the tournament.

Not really. Didn't read his entire post and he said what I said. Can't keep recruiting like this class. Probably ever.

Whatever, now it's been said 1,001. I felt like staying away from the toxicity of the board for at least the night and most of the day.

We probably lead for another top 10 prospect in 2016 too. Kobi Simmons. We also have a shot with top 30 SG Seventh Woods and a top 50 instate prospect in Nachitoches Central PF Cameron Lard. Don't worry about recruiting, it will be fine.

I'm not worried about recruiting. I'm worried about coaching. We can't beat a terrible Auburn team(twice losing)with 2 first team sec players. Then we can't make adjustments to save our life. Literally.

If his coaching doesn't improve we may go one and done next year too. Hopefully someone sees Johnny as what he is. Will Muschamp of Basketball. Great assistant. Average / under average head coach.

Do any if the assistants have any clue how to close out a game? It's the same shite over and over

May be hiring another one soon

This paragraph from a Grantland article sums up my thoughts on Jones throughout the last 2 seasons:
"And, in Pittsburgh, where Northeastern nearly beat Notre Dame, we wrapped things up with the always entertaining LSU Tigers, who can find more ways to lose a game than you ever might think possible, and found some new ones last night. The Tigers are a staggering pile of raw talent with all the internal coherence of a rockslide. Johnny Jones is their coach. At least, that’s what it says in the program, and Jones does have that primo seat right there in the front row next to the players. But, as nearly as could be determined from where I was sitting, LSU was being coached by its own whims, or by a fractious committee meeting somewhere behind its own eyeballs, or by voices from the Beyond."

I suspect that once we get program players, that play four years, that can come off the bench to let players like Simmons, Blakely, and Neuman rest, without losing the lead, then the Jones system will be fine.
We don't have that luxury now.
