people at the top of their game practice hard SO THEY NEVER GET IT WRONG

My wife really wanted to watch the Sound of Music special the other night, but I did pick up something that maybe LSU should put on their practice facility. Julie Andrews said about the long hours they rehearsed for the Sound of Music, something to the effect of:
...up and comers practice so they can get it right, but people at the top of their game practice hard SO THEY NEVER GET IT WRONG....
When the expectation is "I'm great, I made 80% of my FT's this year", then you can almost be sure that when it counts, they're thinking about that 20% they missed. The players and teams that win know they are not going to get it wrong.
Doesn't matter what it is - movies or sports - when you get that kind of attitude that you simply won't fail, then things like last night just won't happen.

Shoulda said the Sound of String Music to make this rant-worthy.
Otherwise it's gonna get anchored in the OT.

Here's a quote by ex Cowboy Everson Walls on Morris Claiborne's woes - about practice and leadership - things lacking in yesterdays game, especially with FT shooting and confidence...
quote:
“That’s another guy that needs to believe in himself,” Walls said. “He had the talent coming out of college. He still has it, but this game is more mental than people want to think. You have to be comfortable with yourself.
“When you’re mind becomes clouded with a lot of other issues that have nothing to do with how good you are, I think that’s what happened with Claiborne and I think that had a lot to do with why he got hurt.”
The one way to find that confidence? Practice.
“I practiced so much,” Walls said. “I practiced when I didn’t need to practice. I was out on the field when I didn’t need to be on the field. I was out there working on my backpedal. I was shadow covering. You know shadow boxing? I was shadow covering because there’s only so many routes you can run, and you just need to work on your reaction to those routes.
“When the ball is in the air, it’s yours as well as his, so work on your offensive skills, work on your ball skills. That can be learned. It’s not something, ‘Oh I can’t do (that).’ No, that can be learned by repetition and that’s up to the player to do that on his own.”

I cannot disagree more with the OP. I look at Hall of Famers in the biggest "games", World Series, Superbowls, NBA finals, Stanley Cup games,...hell every sport, that have not performed well to say the least but on balance have been great players and worthy of the Hall of Fame in their respective sport.

When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when LSU misses 17 shots in a row and I'm feeling sad...

who needs practice when you aren't even a top 100 free throw shooting team anyways?
