Big beer and distributors have senators by the balls. The end.

I wouldn't say by the balls, but they certainly own them. Money talks, especially with politicians. Plus free booze at all legislative events, getting those tasty pages loosened up for the old men.

Nah, some of the Senate have big beer in their mouths.
"The Beer Jobs Bill will allow consumers to purchase a pint at a brewery and take beer home from breweries and brewpubs – these changes will help drive jobs, tourism, and economic growth that will allow our state to be more competitive in the national craft beer marketplace."
Every state bordering Georgia allows beer sales on site and sales to go.

Just contacted my state reps. Unfortunately if history is any indicator the large breweries and the status quo system of three tiered distribution will likely not take much of a blow.

did your contact include a check? otherwise, they DGAF about your input.

It's state house representative from a large city that nobody has every heard of. I'm not as cynical as some that citizens' input has zero merit.

well sure, but compare your one phone call to the weekly contact from the Beer and Liquor lobbyist that he sees weekly, who provides free alcohol to all the parties, who gives his campaign a check every year.

It's a she. A black female Democrat from west Atlanta. I doubt she's hobnobbing with BMC fat cats.

To be fair, they are getting flooded by people calling and writing them in support of this bill. It is one of the main reasons the bill has made it this far. It is definitely working and the GCBG (who is also at the capitol constantly) has said as much.

The part where the brewery can only sell one growler to a customer and the customer must open and consume some of it on premise is crazy. I know the real reason why they do it, but was is their phony premise for making people do that?
Posted on 3/20/15 at 12:22 pm to Jax-Tiger
There is no logical explanation to any of this other than the distributors want to be able to control how consumers get there beer. It is completely ridiculous and isn't a problem in 45 other states.

Sadly, that is better than what we have now.

Don't think a lady doesn't get her drink on. She is in politics, after all.
I think I shall give my phat boy a hug, and be thankful that Cali politicians recognized the economic benefits of craft brewing.

Will I be able to taste samples of beers @ Hop City ? I can in Alabama, but not at growler fill places in the ninth largest city in the country.

Edit: I didn't know what I was answering.
With the breweries in Georgia small samples are free. If you want to have more you buy one of their glasses and they pour the free beer into your purchased glass.
It's stupid. But at least you get a cool glass.

I know that, but when they do stuff like that, they usually have a bullshite explanation, like "We're trying to protect the general public from consumers who have a case of beer in their car and are driving around drinking it...", or whatever.
You never hear the politician say, "The larger brewers donate more money to our re-election campaigns, so we are trying to prevent the craft brewers from taking away any more of their market share.".

You can right outside of Atlanta too. I'll be getting growlers filled in Sandy Springs today and they certainly do samples. Think Brookhaven does too.
Anyway, don't give people the wrong idea, Georgia is pretty craft friendly and way ahead of most of the South.
