I have been a smoker for most of my adult life, but in 2006 I quit until December of 2011. I was diagnosed with a rare eye Cancer, and figured I was dead anyway, so lit a cigarette that day. Been smoking ever since.

As fate would have it, I beat Cancer, and am stuck with that nasty habit of smoking, Lol. I am not a casual smoker, I burn 1 to 1.5 packs a day.

The 1st time I stopped smoking I just went cold turkey, and it was really easy.

I know there are meds, and other methods, but just wondering if anyone has words of encouragement, or info that might be helpful in motivating me to pull it off again, thanks.

PS: I'm 45 minutes into it, haha. A friend told me if I can make 72 hours, most of the cravings will be gone.

Just do what you did the first time you quit for 5 years.

That is my plan, thanks. I really have no desire to start substituting, if I have to do that, I'll just continue smoking

You can do it. My mom smoked for 50 years. The Dr told her two months ago she needed to quit, and she hasn't had a cigarette since

Get a good e-cig and taper off, it makes it super easy. Also, be sure to avoid alcohol for a bit because nothing makes you want a cig like a nice buzz.

Your friend is a liar. The cravings lasted a couple weeks for me before they really died down.

It's not hard to quit if you want to quit. Breaking your routines is very helpful.

It take the average person 9 tries to quit....so don't get discouraged.

The gum and patches but be weary...my dad quit smoking almost 30 years ago but still chews the gum which I guess is better for him but is a money sink. I'd suggest cold turkey.

I am am on day 3 myself but I only have like 1 or 2 a day unless I get hammered so it's not super difficult.

I quit Dec 31, 2014 and I'm still having cravings. Go cold turkey and find something to motivate you, like the fact that you;re prone to cancer.

I quit in Sept. 2013 and I still get cravings too. You just learn to deal with them. They pass in two seconds.

My wife quit smoking after 20+ years and dozens of attempts.

Chantix (sp?). It's a prescription drug. Get it.

BTW: She has been smoke free for 8 years. I ask her occasionally if they could make a cigarette that wasn't bad for you, would you start again. She always says "In a second". The cravings never go away, you just learn to manage them.

I remember the 1st time, I would have these quick thoughts of lighting 1, but they left almost as fast as they came, just had to make it through those.

I used to enjoy a good cig after meals, when drinking, or with a cup of coffee, At this point, I get no enjoyment, just the addiction or habit still holding on.

Chantix is really effective but if you go that route immediately see your doctor or quit taking it if you feel the side effects. There have been several suicides linked to the drug.
