Until 1958, St. Louis Cardinals were the official "Team of the South"

The St. Louis Cardinals were the most southern and western team in baseball from 1882 - 1958 when MLB's expansion era began (officially in 1961).
For 76 years the St. Louis Cardinals were the official "Team of the South" and proudly claim that honor more than any other so-called "southern" team.
Just another reason to love the St. Louis Cardinals.

truth ... my dad (would be about 90 today) recalled listening to cardinal ballgames growing up and pulling for them ...

I honestly dislike the Cardinals more than Obama at this point

Dodger Stadium was completed in 1962 and before that they were not considered anything more than a mere novelty in California

Los Angeles is also technically further south than St Louis

Candlestick Park wasn't completed until 1960. For the two years prior to that the San Francisco Giants played in a rent-a-stadium and were considered a novelty until Candlestick was completed.

you could get the Cardinals on the radio in Lake Charles

To pacify you, I edited the OP. It now reads "Until 1958, St. Louis Cardinals were the official "Team of the South".
Instead of 79 years of southern dominance it was actually 76 years.
Regardless, St. Louis is the one true southern baseball team.

You might want to check that again
