A full sky display and/or a bright flare are indescribable. No matter how many times you see it, they never get old.

Those pictures don't even look real. And I know they are which is what makes it awesome.

Very jealous, gotta make a trip up there one day.

There were some taken by pro photographers last night that are mind boggling.

Supposed to be a better show tonight. It's kind of cloudy here but they may be visible to the mid latitudes of the lower 48.

Does not even look real!! Absolutely in awe of the things this world has to offer. Having lived in many places all over the world, Alaska is the one place I have always wanted to go to but never been able to get too. I am so jealous!

Awesome pics
I know it varies but how often do you see this, I guess say out of a month?

I will be moose hunting for 10 days in Yukon come September and I am really hoping to see them once.

The red is special, it's not that common. It makes the lights so much more mystical IMO. It really affects you in ways you wouldn't think

There's an old Robert Service Poem that's one of my favorites.

quote:

.....Have you suffered, starved and triumphed,
groveled down, yet grasped at glory,
Grown bigger in the bigness of the whole?
“Done things” just for the doing, letting babblers tell the story,
Seeing through the nice veneer the naked soul?

Have you seen God in His splendors, heard the text that nature renders?
(You’ll never hear it in the family pew.)
The simple things, the true things, the silent men who do things —
Then listen to the Wild — it’s calling you.

They have cradled you in custom, they have primed you with their preaching,
They have soaked you in convention through and through;
They have put you in a showcase; you’re a credit to their teaching —
But can’t you hear the Wild? — it’s calling you.

Let us probe the silent places, let us seek what luck betide us;
Let us journey to a lonely land I know.
There’s a whisper on the night-wind, there’s a star agleam to guide us,
And the Wild is calling, calling . . . let us go.

Oh, you will. Yukon is usually clear and it's dark enough to see the lights. They happen almost ever night, just got to be in the right place to see them when its dark.

There are some incredibly beautiful places around here. One, is Lynn Canal a natural fjord. I drive out there sometimes and sit, and all worries disappear. One day I was looking at images of the place, and this popped up in google images.

It's how I feel. No matter how bad things get, I have places I can go and know everything will be all right. This is Lynn Canal, my paradise.

I can only imagine. I get giddy just getting to do all the driving that I do for outside sales which happens to be a lot of back roads in North La. If I were able to be on back roads with scenery like that I would never make a single sale.

It's gorgeous. Road goes about halfway up the fjord from Juneau. We usually take the ferry between ports.

You said you wish you had grown up there, but I think it's likely that your appreciation of it would not be the same if that were the case.

Thx for posting these pics. They are awesome.

Maybe. You may be right. But even as a child in La I fantasized about it. I remember pretending clouds on the horizon were mountains.
