I'm leaning toward the H&K P30S because I like exterior safeties, but I also like the Sig P226/229. Looking for something full/mid size with a high capacity magazine. Already have a commander 1911 and a Shield 9mm.

I've ruled out Glock, S&W M&P, Springfield XDS and Beretta.

CZ 75b

ETA: Not saying it's the best, just worth looking at.

I paid about that for my colt defender 9mm. I'm sure some other 9mm pistols are as good but few are better.

I'm surprised you did this. You can't go wrong with a Glock 17, a Springfield XDM, or an M&P.

But, to each his own. Try the CZ like boomroasted suggested.

H&K P30S

This in the V0 version instead of that safety lever.
You'd have a decocker button on the rear that will put the gun in DA mode with an 11 lb trigger.

or Walther P99 AS trigger. The P99 has the decocker also.

I prefer the speed of a decock with heavier first trigger pull over a manual safety.

They're all great but I'm looking for something a little more special. This is really a replacement of a Beretta 92FS that I got rid of a while back. The CZ and Walther are exactly the type of suggestions I was after, since I hadn't considered either before.

Hickock 45 has a good video on the CZ.

I would go VP9, but I also see no need for an 800 dollar 9mm when the Glock 19 exists for 500 bucks.

That said, don't be dissuaded, that's a nice budget and I'm sure you'll find what you like.

Special as in HK special or special as in heirloom special.

Special as in "nice enough to where I won't get the itch to buy another one for many years". So HK special.

Oh, I gotcha. I can understand the sentiment. Don't let dawg23 see this though.

Have you thought about a 1911 in 9mm? $800 would be cutting it close though. You could probably get a Remington R1 Enhanced for that price range.
