When I read this I thought about this current squad.

quote:

Oakley -- who knew a thing or two about toughness during his playing days -- said, in part, players' mindsets have changed. "The mind is not -- you don't have to be strong to play this game no more," he said.

"I don't know what it is. They just roll you out there like a basketball. That's why ... you see the same teams in the finals or winning 55 games. Strong teams, strong-minded coach. Just the players, they don't think it, they don't know how to play together," he said.

"So that's one of things I see the weakness is: Communication, the guys don't love the game. They play the game, but they don't play with their heart."

This team, IMO, can play with anybody, but somehow they manage to play with everybody. They play up to the competition, then down to competition. Is it heart or focus?

I think it's focus. Perfect example is Quarterman missing 3 FT's while up by 8. You just know there was no urgency by him. They were cruising and thinking about today's game.

Basketball, as a sport, is HARD to watch. AAU basketball elites and travel squads have led to college basketball squads of temporary college players with no sense of pride for team and no edge for competition. Players can run, jump, dunk, but with no ability to shoot or play without the ball. Fans follow college basketball mainly so they have some basic knowledge to prepare for the March tournament (not to be ready for well-played basketball, but to be able to fill in their brackets). These players without basic basketball ability and competitive instinct pass on to the pros where there is all buddy buddy and friendship between players from their high school travel squad days. First step toward to pairing or tripling up on their own pre-destined pro team one day. NO evidence of teams coming together with hard work and pride.

The NBA product is at its peak right now. Pretty dumb statement

CBB on the other hand is terrible. Just a bunch of contested 3s and free throws

Seriously. This is one of the most idiotic statements on the Rant in a long time, and that's saying something.

NBA is full of young superstars (Lebron, Durant, AD, Westbrook, etc) and great team ball (Golden St, Atlanta, San Antonio). This isn't early 2000's post MJ. Anyone that says they loved the 80's NBA should stop watching college all together and just watch the NBA every night. Product is a good as it's ever been.

You have either:
Not watched any NBA games this year or
Never played basketball at any serious level

College basketball as a product is horrendous. There is a long list of why it is. I understand you may like college basketball emotionally, but the game is as bad as it's ever been.
